Excellent problem solving.

My appliance broke down and was written off. Quick and efficient delivery. Pleasant and helpful staff. Excellent problem solving. I noticed a leak after the installation, but AO staff were there first thing the next morning to fix it.

The solar installation from hell.

We signed a contract to install a solar system in December 2024. We knew the process would take a few months, but what transpired is beyond ridiculous.

After signing the contract, we were given an April installation date that had not taken into account that a lightning rod needed to be installed first. That date was cancelled subsequently. Octopus couldn’t find a contractor to install the lightning rod and eventually agreed an in-house installation. That fell through, but fortunately a contractor did it in the end. We then had to wait another three weeks for our installation agent to return from vacation before Octopus could book a new installation date. They would not book a new installation date while the lightning rod installation was still pending. But we now had an installation date for June and things were looking up.

Last week scaffolders arrived and erected scaffolding that sealed my bedroom windows shut, so I had no ventilation in the sweltering heat. I decided to ignore the problem thinking by the end of this week it would all be over.

Early on Wednesday 18 June, the solar panels were delivered to a site with no workmen. A single roofer turned up an hour later but couldn't start work with no crew. It transpired that someone had allocated a crew who were already elsewhere. The lone roofer moved the solar panels off my drive onto my patio and left.

On Thursday 19 June, the crew arrived this time, but still with only one roofer, which meant they still couldn’t work on the roof. They need at least two at any time. Following the previous days’ calls, scaffolders turned up to alleviate the window situation but could not sort all the windows. Then the crew noted that for technical reasons the battery could not be located within the back garden where the surveyor told us it would go. We spent the better part of the morning trying to find a work-around and eventually settled on locating it at the front of the house. Then just as we thought we had made progress, we discovered the designed proposal was too ambitious for our roof and we would have to reduce the number of panels by almost a third. Since the existing contract was now null and void, the crew departed while I awaited a new proposal from the powers that be in the office.

Friday morning started bright and early, but I was under no illusions. Someone arrived to cart the surplus panels away even though I still didn’t have an updated proposal. The crew arrived but were still one roofer short. Then the new proposal arrived via email and I was just about to sign it when I received a telephone call from Octopus. I was told that since the job couldn’t be completed in a day, and Octopus could not man a crew to complete it next week, they were cancelling the installation. They couldn’t even give me the earliest possible date for an installation. At this point I refused to sign the new proposal without written guarantee of a completion next week. Needless to say, it went downhill from there. The crew, including the missing roofer who had since turned up departed after another 5 hours of chatting on my drive. I did my best to make them comfortable with chairs and offers of water.

So, after six months of waiting, I have now asked Octopus to remove their scaffolding and gear. They have offered me a £200 incentive to rebook the installation. But who's to say this won't reoccur?
The moral of this story is clear. Proceed with Octopus with caution. When things go wrong Octopus have neither the will nor capacity to put things right.

An easy to install and useful system, but if you are a Mastercard user, you may have some difficulties signing up to the monitoring service.

I initially posted a review about my difficulties with this company as regards connecting to their monitoring service as a Mastercard user.

After I posted the review, the company reached out. While the Mastercard issue remains (apparently it only affects a small proportion of Mastercard users), the company have devised a temporary workaround for me, which means I am now connected to a fully monitored service. The investigating manager Leo was exceedingly helpful in this regard.

The system is easy to install and easy to use. You can also customise it to your exact circumstance and add devices as you need later. In that regard, it represents excellent value for money.

Competitive prices, prompt delivery, good customer services

The item i ordered was priced much cheaper than on any other website. It arrived in reasonable time, however I found one of the components to be defective. I rang customer services who were very helpful and sent out a replacement which arrived the following day. A couple of the items I ordered were not in stock and I was advised about this after I placed the order. I would have preferred to know before hand as i might have chosen something else.
