Sisu is a Finnish word that I think means inner strength, courage and persistence. We also use it in Sweden as we have very strong connections to Finland — from history and a huge Finnish population. 🇫🇮🇸🇪Ida Hansson Brusewitz shared thisWelcome to Sisu Valley! 🇫🇮 Finland’s tech scene is absolutely crushing it right now. In the last couple of weeks, two new Finnish unicorns were born: Verda and Bluefors. I’ve been in Finnish tech for more than a decade and there’s so much momentum right now. Just look at what’s going on: ► Verda: Potentially the fastest-growing startup in Finnish history, targeting a €300M+ annual revenue run rate by EOY ► Bluefors: €217 million in revenue last year with more than €38 million in operating profit ► Userlens (YC P26) + LAC (YC S26): Two Finnish companies that have just come through Y Combinator in 2026 ► ICEYE: Unicorn, revenue up 169.7% to €278M with €80M net profit ► Zero: Just announced a $10M+ seed round ► ŌURA: Decacorn, revenue up 128.8% and preparing for a huge IPO ► Supermetrics: Claude product growing 250% MoM, making it their fastest-growing product ever ► NestAI: Building AI for European defence and already profitable ► Fennoa: Growing fast, highly profitable, and 100% remote ► IQM Quantum Computers: Unicorn, growing 90.7% and the first European quantum computing company listed on a major U.S. exchange And there are all the tech standouts from HS Visio’s study of 35 of Finland’s largest venture-backed growth companies, including Sensofusion +87.7%, One Click LCA +79.8%, Enfuce +63.0%, Hoxhunt +55.2%, Hostaway +51.2% and Framery +36.8%. On top of this, the ecosystem around it all is flourishing: Founders House Helsinki, FR8, SILTA, a new generation of founders taking bigger swings, and of course Slush bringing thousands of founders and investors to Helsinki every year. The bar is getting higher for 2027 and it’s super inspiring. Sellforte is coming off its best-ever six-month commercial period and we're on track to break all records this year. haamu.io’s 2026 revenue is already 76% above our entire 2025 revenue and we’re aiming for well over 100% YoY growth. And we’re only just getting started. But despite all this, so much of the narrative around the Finnish economy is complete doom and gloom. Yes, we shouldn’t ignore the challenges. But we also shouldn’t lose sight of all the truly incredible things happening here. A country of 5.6 million people is punching ridiculously far above its weight. Hundreds of thousands documents with different business laws in different countries. So they took money from their exit and spent over a year to solve this with AI. Round led by Swedes like Sara Rywe byFounders The rounds are quicker, so to get the best founders you need to have boots in the ground and build relationships. Everyday we have new, foreign investors showing up. This morning news broke that Tatiana Shalalvand is pairing up with Sophia Bendz at Cherry Ventures to find the next trillion dollar company. ”Personally, I think there is a high probability that it will come from the Nordic region or Sweden. Ida Hansson Brusewitz shared thisGoodbye to the Swedish ”industrial vacation” — a hot summer rolled into a heated Autumn. ”It’s never been more interesting to invest in Sweden as now.” I hear this from investors right now every week. This week we had Accel hosting in Stockholm. Tomorrow I’m meeting a partner for a new 50 billion kronor fund looking for cases in Sweden. It’s important to have boots on the ground as the most popular startups raise rounds quickly. Relationships, trust and value creation matters. One factor behind The Swedish tech wonder is our strong local capital market with legacy VC:s and new investors emerging. But it’s also clear that the market is fragmented. I see startups and sectors that struggle to raise funds, because they are not as ”trendy”. But things can move quickly when clever investors look for undervalued and overlooked prospects.

Ida Hansson Brusewitz shared thisNew record investments in Silicon Valhalla 🦄🔥 I’ve gathered exclusive data to confirm what we’ve all felt. 2025 was a ground breaking year for investments in Swedish AI. 2026 started a bit slow, but then something happened that surprised us all. Usually after Swedish midsummer celebrations everything slows down. But this year startup founders and investors had to postpone holidays or sign deals by the pool. During the summer a total of 12 billion kronor came into Swedish tech. And this autumn has started with big deals like Tandem Health raising 1 billion kronor a few days ago and Tavion with 730 million kronor recently. We also see another pattern repeating. A few poster childs stand for a majority of the investments. This is something we’ve seen before in history — then it was other startups like Klarna, Kry and Northvolt. Now Neko Health, Lovable and Legora are top of the lists for 2025 and 2026. This means that the total investments from January–August in 2026 has surpassed the same period in 2025. 22.3 billion kronor compared to 19.7 billion, according to my calculations. Still, we need some more big deals to come through to top the total in 2025 at 30 billion. One big rumoured round is Legora , which is supposed to raise at 100 billion kronor valuation. If you’re not able to solve today’s problem it’s best to not be in the same room as Elon Musk. These are some of the lessons from working as a manager for the world’s richest man, Elon Musk. Steven Prast was a manager at Space X and then Tesla before recently starting at the Swedish battery company Holyvolt ”Elon is a very analytical person. He is kinetic and 100 percent in the present. There was no Tesla or SpaceX 'Hall of Fame.' It doesn't matter what you did last week, year, or month. Today is what counts”, says Steven Prast. If you don't have the ability to solve today's problems, you bring no value in Elon Musk's eyes. "That doesn't mean you lack worth or are a bad person. It doesn't mean he doesn't love you, only that you aren't useful right now." HS Visio on viime viikkoina uutisoinut, että kvanttitietokoneiden jäähdyttimiä valmistava Bluefors ja tekoäly-datakeskuksia rakentava Verda ovat uusia yksisarvisia eli yli miljardin euron arvoisia yhtiöitä. Jos droonien torjuntaan teknologiaa kehittävän Sensofusionin pörssilistautuminen sujuu odotetusti, siitä tulee jopa 1,3 miljardin arvoinen. Blueforsin miljardiarvo perustuu yhtiön sijoittajilleen tekemään suunnattuun osakeantiin. HS Visio laski arvostuksen yhtiön tilinpäätöstietojen perusteella. Itse se ei hiiskunut merkkipaalustaan. Se, että yksisarvisia syntyy Suomeen nyt kiihtyvään tahtiin, on tärkeä ja toivoa antava merkki kasvusta. Puolet Suomen arvokkaimmista kasvuyrityksistä on siis jo myyty tai muuttanut pois. Oleellista on, pystyykö Suomi nyt pitämään aiempaa paremmin yksisarvisten uuden sukupolven kotimaassa. Yhteensä Suomesta ponnistaneita yksisarvisia on näillä kriteereillä 17. Huom! You never know who's listening. Getting coffee this morn, I heard a couple investors talk really loudly and openly about a competitor. I was seated just doing my thing, and didn't consciously overhear but I also couldn't underhear. When I realized it was a competitor, I put headphones in. But I'd already heard their cost structure, growth plans, what this VC thinks of them. I had a little stint in VC and now I'm on the other side of the desk. But today was a good reminder that what is "just a deal" for some is others' entire livelihood, ambition, focus. So just remember that, please. When you get info, take care to treat it sensitively.

But while the whole room crowds around one table, there's another corner of Europe (actually right next door to Sweden) quietly ordering the entire menu. 2.6% of EU population 3.5% of EU GDP 10% of EU unicorns 🦄 Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania. Four small countries with a habit of punching above their weight — and the ecosystem is maturing and reinventing itself fast. A few observations from the ground: Finland — what it lacks in marketing flair, it makes up for in raw engineering. Defense (ICEYE, Kelluu), quantum (QMill), software-enabled hardware (ŌURA). A new wave of builders gathering in Founders House Helsinki. Estonia — still the world champion in unicorns per capita, a stat every Estonian is legally required to mention within 30 seconds of meeting you. The more interesting shift of the last few years: tech companies are importing senior leadership. Fractory, Click And Grow, Defendec Ltd and Cleveron have all brought in experienced CEOs from abroad. Pre-seed is getting fun again thanks to ruum (applications are open!!!). And when Bolt delivers the AV story it's been hinting at, it's back to being one of the most sought-after tech companies in Europe. Latvia — went years without a single local VC fund. Now it has two. Greetings to Outlast Fund and BADideas.fund. The FYUL ecosystem is showing what's possible, and one of the best on-demand competence centers in the world is sitting right there too. Lithuania — probably the biggest glow-up of the last five years. The recent Vinted secondary brought real liquidity to the market and showed what's achievable. Add a seriously strong (and seriously overlooked) biosciences scene, plus a great crop of new builders in basedcollective. Now, plenty of large funds will tell you they "cover the region." Technically true. They can find it on a map and they don't mix up the countries. But anything before late seed? Not on their radar. That's exactly where the local funds (like Specialist VC) live: close enough to spot the new wave of builders early and capture the value before everyone else shows up. The deeply collaborative way they work, found, hire and invest cross-border to pull each other up, share information and opportunity and grow is uniquely positive. They are showing that our industry is not a zero sum game and that being a good player makes you a successful player. This ecosystem did not get built in a day or by a single leader, but the way it operates is an outlier. I always learn from Sara Rywe of byFounders who now has one more unicorn in her portfolio in Finland, and love speaking with Maria Lindholm Isaksson, Petter Made of EWOR and Chris S. of Andreessen Horowitz.

I started a project for vulnerable youth where we made a magazine together. The participants did all the work from writing to photography, illustration and design. Managed to get funding and other journalists were paid to continue this important work giving these young creatives a place to be, inspiration and willpower. Today the project lives on as a podcast.
