I honestly can’t recommend SafetyWing enough, especially after having to actually use our insurance during what was a really stressful time.

While living in Bali, our 18-month-old daughter became extremely unwell and ended up needing hospital treatment at Bali International Hospital. She was severely dehydrated, had repeated vomiting and diarrhoea, needed IV fluids and multiple tests, and was admitted to hospital more than once. As a parent, being in hospital with a very sick toddler in another country was stressful enough without having to worry about whether we were going to be financially covered.

Our total out-of-pocket hospital expenses came to AUD $1,860.54.

What really impressed me was how straightforward the insurance process was. We submitted our claim, and SafetyWing reimbursed us in full, with no excess, and the reimbursement came through incredibly quickly.

The hospital was also able to liaise with SafetyWing to arrange a Guarantee of Payment (GOP), which made such a huge difference and gave us one less thing to worry about while our daughter was receiving treatment.

I’ve always hoped we'd never need to make a travel insurance claim, but you don't really know how good an insurance company is until you actually need them. For us, SafetyWing genuinely came through when we needed it most.

Travelling and living overseas with two young children comes with enough uncertainty already. Knowing we had insurance that actually responded quickly, covered our expenses and made the whole process so much easier gave us enormous peace of mind.

5 stars from us. We’ll absolutely continue using SafetyWing for our Bali chapter.

Connection was quick. Advice was solid. However, their travel insurance didn’t cover traveller’s over 70 which is was I needed.

Efficient and helpful support from customer services! Dushica - the agent went above and beyond to help me with the plan cancellation, providing very clear guidance and information including screenshots of details where I should look for. The response time was really quick too. I didn’t submit any claims for my plan, but this prompt and professional support gives me great confidence in the company’s reliability and services.

I've used Safety Wing for a few years, but I never had a claim with them until my last four month backpacking trip abroad that I just got back from. In fact, I had two claims - one at the beginning and one at the end of my trip.

I'm happy to say Safety Wing paid both! The reason for four stars instead of five is that with the first claim they asked for what seemed to me a bit excessive paperwork. I got them the receipt from my claim at the hospital, but then they wanted a screenshot of my credit card statement to prove that I actually paid the bill.

Maybe I'm just spoiled with other health insurance I've had where I don't need that much (or any) paperwork, but it seemed like a bit much to me.

Ultimately, what matters is they paid that claim and my second one (which was for a long travel delay and required a lot less paperwork), and that's what counts!

I would highly recommend Safety Wing, and I will absolutely use them again on my next travel excursion. Thank you Safety Wing!

I am writing this review after a deeply frustrating experience with SafetyWing. This was my first time using their service for travel coverage as I was using another company before, and it will absolutely be my last. I purchased SafetyWing coverage immediately upon arriving at my destination, and the policy became active on August 6 at 12:10 AM. Later that same day, I developed an acute medical issue and saw a local physician on August 7. SafetyWing denied my claim (CLM60057654), citing a pre-existing condition. Their adjuster misinterpreted standard clinical phrasing in my medical notes regarding when my symptoms started. I submitted a formal appeal accompanied by an official, signed addendum from my treating physician confirming that my symptoms began after my policy was active. Despite concrete timeline evidence and an official doctor's note correcting the misinterpretation, SafetyWing refused to honor the claim and rejected the appeal. SafetyWing will look for any technicality to avoid paying legitimate medical expenses. If you are a traveler looking for a reliable insurance company that stands by its policy terms, look elsewhere.
