Authors should be able to test a book…
Authors should be able to test a book quickly and improve it if necessary.
However, Amazon takes way too much time to approve it. Why not split the process into two phases?
First, a testing phase where the book can be opened to a limited number of people.
Then, the production phase, after validating that the book actually has a market. Only at that point should we worry about how the book is presented and its compliance with the platform's guidelines.
Like many here my account was…
Like many here my account was terminated with no way to appeal and can't access books I'm selling on the Amazon KDP dashboard. Royalties in limbo and books I own copyright to being sold right now even though I can't access or get paid for the books I have listed. My account was terminated for no explanation other than "unusual activity." Whatever that means. Most frustrating is the email states you can't appeal and customer service can't help. Extremely frustrating and many hours poured into books I wrote now being sold by Amazon but Royalty goes where? My account is terminated and I have no way to appeal a decision not clearly defined. No customer service and they can't even discuss the matter with you. It's unethical and very dishonest. Highly disappointed and Amazon will always be negatively referred by myself to anyone asking.

Après avoir résilié mon compte sans raison valable, KDP continue à vendre mes livres en refusant de me verser les sommes perçues. N'est-ce pas du vol?
Excellent Marketplace. Broken Publishing Workflow
I chose Amazon KDP because it provides access to the largest marketplace for readers, not because I believed the publishing experience would be perfect. I expected there to be a learning curve, but I did not expect the publishing workflow itself to become the greatest obstacle to publishing my book.
My cover successfully passed the Cover Previewer, allowing me to order five proof copies at my own expense. Those proof copies printed exactly as designed, giving me every reason to believe my files met KDP's requirements. After reviewing and approving the proofs, I was surprised to learn that the same cover was later rejected during the final automated review due to an alleged issue with the spine. If the cover did not meet KDP's specifications, that issue should have been identified before I was permitted to spend additional time and money ordering proof copies.
Over the next two weeks, I repeatedly revised and resubmitted my cover while receiving the same generic automated guidance. When I requested a manual review, I was informed that no such option exists. That means authors can become trapped in an endless cycle of trying to satisfy an automated system without any opportunity for a qualified person to review the file or provide meaningful feedback.
Perhaps the most disappointing part of this experience was the solution provided by KDP's technical team. Rather than preserving my original design and making the necessary technical adjustments, they returned a revised spine that was barely legible and appeared to be an afterthought. As an author who invested significant time and care into the presentation of my work, I found that solution to be unacceptable because it compromised the professional appearance and integrity of the book I created.
My criticism is not of Amazon's marketplace. Amazon's reach is precisely why I chose KDP. My criticism is of a publishing workflow that allowed me to invest additional money into proof copies before identifying a problem that supposedly existed all along, while offering no meaningful path to human review when the automated process failed. Independent authors deserve a publishing experience that is transparent, consistent, and supported by knowledgeable people—not one that relies entirely on automation when the stakes are the publication of their work.
I hope KDP will improve this process by validating cover files before proof copies can be ordered, providing detailed and actionable rejection feedback, and offering a manual review process for cases where repeated good-faith attempts have failed.

Didn’t give me the option to leave 0 stars. Opened a KDP account and published some ebooks I’d already written on Reedsy.
Exceptionally hard to fill the criteria for book covers if you want to do paperbacks. After less than ONE WEEK I recieved an email to say my account was terminated and the explanation they gave was very obscure. Tried to appeal the decision, asking for more clarification so I could correct any issues they had but received robotic emails telling me the ‘decision’ had been made and not to contact them again. The most horrible experience I’ve had with a company that either has robots working for them, or people who just don’t care.
KDP just closed my account for no reason
KDP just closed my account and removed my books for sale on Amazon for no reason. They refused to provide a reason for this decision. I will never use or purchase anything from amazon ever again .

Although l am told that Kindle books is a good platform, l am somewhat disappointed trying to get my account verified, fair to say l did get some helpful advice when l called them.
l am of the old school, do not have a smart phone or access to one, do not want one, do not want to use someone else's phone, KDP have verified bank details, , whenever l verify my ID elswhere, l send photos and my licence and there you have it.
If appears to me that KDP want to take money, but do not want to do anything to earn, treating Authors as if they are doing them a favour
Well, l am now looking at other platforms and if my book is not published in five days, l will move else Amazon founder Geof Bazos, is more interested in being a celebrity space man, than the company he set up, and he should understand making Autjhors life simple
As someone with autism and bipolar, it may help id KDP has provisions for people like me
KDP - Horrible publishers - a BIG disappointment
This outfit has gone down to the lowest quality possible. The last two books they published for me were an embarrassment. They are made poorly and the font is so bad you can hardly see it. I ordered a copy retail and it came in an envelope and was bent. In the beginning, Amazon sent books in boxes. They took pride and care. Now they are one of the worst company in retail. Of course, there is no support. This is just one issue I have with KDP. So, my plan going forward is to buy my ISBNs and have them published by a superior publisher. I've been a published writer since 1967 and I have never had my writing shown such little respect. Not to mention my readers who will no doubt complain and I can't blame them. My advice to anyone starting out in this field is to go to Sparks or some other publisher. Don't let Amazon touch your book. Don't give them control over anything you work months or even years on. At this point, I'd say they're a scam. A multitude of writer have the same experience and are going elsewhere. As I look at my book, I could cry. It looks like a cheap piece of trash. The cover is lovely. But it is bent and on cheap paper. Everything about it is cheap except the work I put into it. I advise you with all sincerely to avoid letting KDP near your books. The day will come when all authors will leave them.
Publishing my book even tho I changed the publishing date.
My proof copy came back incorrect. I changed the release date to a future month so I could figure out the issue. Once I made corrections, I tried to upload the new version to get another proof copy sent. I was told that my release date would stay the same even though I had changed it. Speaking with a live agent I was told it didn't matter if the release date was changed, it'll still publish at my original date and I cannot make any adjustments until it goes public. WHY??????????? Why even have the option to change the date. MAKES NO SENSE. Now I have to put a hold on my social media content calendar, wait for it to be published, take it down, and fillout the extensive information to get it back up to be published again, upload the book, then get another proof copy.... etc etc It puts me out another month. Even the live agent said its the way it is. TELL YOUR product designers not to allow changes to publishing date if its a farce. It's completely misrepresenting the options available. No live agent could override this. PS the interface sucks and is not user friendly. I am NOT a happ author or customer.
Amazon is a very Useless e-commerce Platform
Amazon is a very Useless Platform, bots deciding the fate of people's years and months of heard work....U could just wake up one morning, and your account has been terminated, and why U try to find out why? They give U a general answer, without telling U the specific reason Ur account was terminated, it's so sad how bots are messing up the System, and withholding your earnings why Ur account have been terminated is Barbaric I have lost thousands of dollars on this useless Platform....Shame on them they are Thieves, taking away Ur hard earned money, just because of an error from a bot...
Scammers and thieves abound here
Scammers and thieves abound here. I paid kdp plus an additional firm to publish my book. It was supposed to be listed under certain categories and optimized under them as well. It was never optimized under any of the categories. It was never even listed under any of them either. I searched Amazon under every category it was supposed to be listed under and it is not there. As a new author this screws me because no one knows me or the title of my book. Stay away from these thieves and liars or you will be screwed over too.
Wow! I'm not the only one (NOT) getting Paid by KDP?
Wow! I sold my books on KDP since, 2009. I didn't check my sales, because, I never got a payment notification? So, from 2009 to 2020... not one notification of payments. I checked my royalties and Kend... over 2000, downloads and 100 plus payments... which I didn't get? My Never Be Poor Again book-- downloaded 997 books... Not one payment received. Out of 16 years I got 6 very small payments in 26 June 26? I'm working with KDP staff... and I have to have my bank do an audit... my bank can't find the payments? How odd... then I read other reviews and I'm not the only one. So, KDP keeps my book(s) revenue??? How odd is that? I teach people how to live for free globally... globalfreeliving. com. I'll keep you up to date for more information... See if I get my pay from KDP... Lovingly, Love-
Well worth the money
They have done an extraordinary job marketing my book, “Grass of the Earth,” and have been very responsive to any questions or concerns throughout the process. They have made any requested revisions in timely fashion and have made me feel like I was a part of the process.
KDP = 100% Nightmarish!
If I could give less than a star, I would. After arguing with the useless AI Agent, I finally got a contact form. I wrote and sent a book to these guys TWO WEEK AGO, and I encountered the extremely faulty Persona ID verification app, and after several failed attempts and not getting anywhere, I tried to reach out to these people. It's now two weeks and 4 attempts to get through, and I have yet to receive a response. Nothing has moved forward. I had no problem publishing with KOBO. Simple. Easty. No issues. Not only is KDP frustrating, but their promise to get back to people within 24 hours is pure B/S. I can understand maybe an extra day or two, but TWO WEEKS? Really? Terrible!
Extremely frustrating and unfair experience with Amazon KDP
My experience with Amazon KDP has been extremely frustrating and disappointing.
Amazon KDP rejected my Kindle book without providing any clear or specific reason. What makes this even more confusing is that the paperback version of the same book is already live on Amazon, while the Kindle version was blocked with the vague explanation that it “might result in a disappointing customer experience.”
No specific formatting issue was mentioned. No content issue was explained. No technical problem was identified. I was left with a generic message that gives authors no real way to understand what went wrong or how to fix it.
I contacted KDP and appealed the decision, but the responses felt generic and robotic, with no meaningful clarification. For independent authors who invest real time, effort, and care into their books, this kind of treatment is extremely discouraging.
Amazon KDP needs to be far more transparent and respectful toward authors. Rejecting a book with vague copy-paste explanations, while offering no clear path to resolve the issue, is simply unacceptable.
Based on this experience, I cannot recommend Amazon KDP to independent authors. The process feels opaque, unpredictable, and unfair.

Aprovechados
They just blocked me for having a…
They initially blocked me for having a subtitle of my second book from 2025 same as some series that trademark (not exact words by the way) is the same as 4 other positions by different authors that I didn't even know existed- instead of eventually blocking one position they just deleted all of my books that didn't have any problem at all. Gladly after me contacting them, they brought them back.
Not perfect but good
Not perfect, but I think KDP provide an important community service, being a way for budding authors to build experience and hopefully audience--albeit a very crowded marketplace (which is not exactly amazon's fault).
