Abstract
A multifunctional protective system for EV charging stations includes a plug lock system with a single cable and locking ports that protects the charging cable and charging plugs from theft and vandalism. Further, the system includes self-diagnostic capability wherein an electrical measuring system allows users to test/monitor the cable and plugs for any reliability problems. This is enabled because the charging plug(s) is fastened to an inlet port, which allows for current to pass through the charging system all the time and further prevents freezing of the conducting parts. A thermal management system further regulates temperature fluctuations within the system during different weather conditions. Additionally, the system allows to serve both CCS and NACS plug compatible vehicles with the help of an adapter. The locking system and associated payment portal further enables to selectively remove the needed charging plug from a locked inlet port after the user makes the payment.
