Description

A TOP COVER FOR LAUNDRY WASHER-DRYER
The present invention relates to a top cover suitable for use in laundry washer-dryers.
In laundry washer-dryers, the top cover covering the top of the body must carry the load thereon without any plastic deformation and protect the inner components such as tub group, etc. against external factors. In the state of the art the top cover is generally produced from a plastic frame and chipboard adhered to each other. While the production process is carried out in a plurality of steps, the adhering process causes problems. The top cover can be produced from a single plastic material by being reinforced with ribs; however, in this case in order for the top plate to carry the desired load, the size thereof and hence the amount of plastic material used in production must be increased. The top cover used in laundry washer-dryers is required to be thin, lightweight, low-cost, to provide a homogeneous load distribution and to have the desired strength.
The Patent No. EP1685786(B1) relates to a top cover used in electrical home appliances and the production method thereof.
The aim of the present invention is the realization of a top cover which is suitable for use in laundry washer-dryers, which provides a homogeneous load distribution and wherein the strength thereof is increased and the amount material used is decreased.
The top cover realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention is suitable for use in laundry washer-dryers, and ribs composed of interconnected segment arrays are integrated to the top plate. The ribs extend between the right-left sides and front-rear sides of the top cover, thus creating a grid form. The height of each rib varies and the height of the rib increases linearly or non-linearly from the center of the top cover towards the opposite sides of the frame. The lower surfaces of the ribs create a dome- shaped ceiling form facing the inner volume of the body.
The top cover realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention is illustrated in the attached figures, where:
Figure 1 - is the schematic view of the top cover and the laundry washer-dryer of the present invention. Figure 2 - is the exploded view of the top cover and the body of the laundry washer- dryer.
Figure 3 - is the bottom view of the top cover.
Figure 4 - is the view of the cross-section A-A in Figure 3.
Figure 5 - is the view of the cross-section B-B in Figure 3.
Figure 6 - is the bottom perspective view of the top cover.
The elements illustrated in the figures are numbered as follows:
1. Top cover
2. Cover plate
3. Frame
4. Rib
5. Segment
6. Support
7. Opening
8. Body
9. Drum

H: Height
Suitable for laundry washer-dryers (12) comprising a body (8), a drum (9) wherein the laundry is placed, a tub (10) wherein the drum (9) moves and a balance weight (11) which is mounted onto the tub (10) and which increases the inertia of the tub (10) to absorb the forces acting during the operation, the top cover (1) produced from plastic comprises a cover plate (2) which covers the top thereof and creates the planar upper surface and a rectangular frame (3) which is placed onto the body (8) and which supports the cover plate (2).
The top cover (1) of the present invention comprises a plurality of ribs (4) which are integrated to the cover plate (2), which are connected to the frame (3) from the ends thereof, which create a grid form by extending between the right-left sides and front-rear sides of the frame (3), which have varying heights (H) defined as the distance between the lower surface of the cover plate (2) and the lower end thereof extending downwards towards the inner volume of the body (8), wherein the height (H) increases from the center of the cover plate (2) towards the opposite sides of the frame (3).
Each rib (4) is composed of segments (5) which are interconnected and arranged side by side or one after the other.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the heights (H) of the ribs (4) in the top over (1) increase continuously and linearly from the center of the cover plate (2) towards the frame (3).
In another embodiment of the present invention, the heights (H) of the ribs (4) in the top over (1) increase continuously and non-linearly from the center of the cover plate (2) towards the frame (3). In this embodiment, the lower surfaces of the ribs (4) extending under the cover plate (2) of the top cover (1) create a concave ceiling facing the inner volume of the body (8).
In another embodiment of the present invention, the balance weight (11) is positioned under the top cover (1) to be aligned with the center of the top cover (1) where the height (H) of the ribs (4) is the least, thus a volume for the balance weight (11) is formed under the top cover (1) by means of the concave structure of the ribs (4).
The heights (H) of the ribs (4) which are aligned with (under the projection of) the balance weight (11) in the top cover (1) are minimum while the heights (H) of the ribs (4) at areas other than the projection of the balance weight (11) increase linearly or non- linearly towards the frame (3). In another embodiment of the present invention, the top cover (1) comprises a plurality of hollow cylindrical supports (6) which are positioned between each two segments (5) forming each rib (4) and which connect the segments (5) to each other.
In another embodiment of the present invention, the top cover (1) comprises an opening (7) which is arranged at the region least affected by the external factors at the center of the ribs (4) extending in the right-left and front-back directions and which is covered by the cover plate (2). Thus, the amount of plastic used in the production is decreased, making the top cover (1) lighter and decreasing the material costs.
In another embodiment of the present invention, the height (H) of each rib (4) increase gradually from the center of the cover plate (2) towards the frame (3). In this embodiment, the heights (H) of the segments (5) in the segment (5) array forming the rib (4), hence the height (H) of the rib (4) increase gradually towards the sides (not shown in figures).
The ribs (4) with heights (H) increasing linearly or non-linearly from the center towards the sides are integrated to the top cover (1) of the present invention. Moreover, in order to provide a homogeneous distribution of load and prevent accumulation of tensions at certain areas in the top cover (1), the supports (6) with identical radii are provided between the segments (5). All the ribs (4) are connected to the frame (3) from the ends thereof. The top cover (1) can be produced by injection from plastic material in a single step together with the ribs (4) with varying heights (H). The loads acting on the top cover (1) are enabled to be homogeneously distributed and the strength of the top cover (1) is increased. The load bearing capacity of the top cover (1) is increased by 20% thanks to the dome-shaped structure or the rib (4) structure with heights (H) increasing linearly or non-linearly. The amount of plastic raw material used and thus production costs are decreased.
