Abstract

The present invention relates to a household appliance (1) comprising a body (2) and a work top (5) with improved mechanical strength that is disposed onto the body (2) and that has an upper plate (3) and a lower plate (4). By means of the present invention, the work top (5) is prevented from being deformed when an object is placed onto the household appliance (1) or during transportation.

Description

A HOUSEHOLD APPLIANCE COMPRISING A WORK TOP
The present invention relates to a household appliance that comprises a work top.
In household appliances such as dishwasher, dryer, washing machine, etc., a work top is placed on the cabinet so as to cover the top of the cabinet. Forces originating from impacts and fallings occurring during transportation or usage act on the work top. In order to prevent deformations that may occur on the work top, it is known to increase the strength of the work top by means of support members. In the state of the art, the work top is generally produced from chipboard. In these embodiments, if an efficient leak-proofing is not provided, the wooden material absorbs water and gets deformed in the course of time.
In the state of the art International Patent Application No. WO2005124008, a washing machine is described which comprises a support member situated under the work top and placed between the opposite or adjacent edges of the work top.
The aim of the present invention is the realization of a household appliance that comprises a work top with improved strength.
The household appliance realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention, explicated in the first claim and the respective claims thereof, comprises a body and a work top that covers the top of the body, that provides the household appliance with an esthetic appearance and that is suitable to place objects thereon. The household appliance furthermore comprises a support member having more than one rib spread almost all along the work top in a web form, in the work top in order to increase the strength of the work top. The support member is joined with the upper plate and/or the lower plate so as to remain between the upper plate and the lower plate that form the work top.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the ribs are shaped as hollow pipes and provide sound insulation.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the ribs are strip-shaped and some of the ribs extend in the horizontal plane and the remaining ribs extend in the vertical plane so as to intersect with the ribs extending the horizontal plane. By means of the net-shaped support member formed by the intersecting ribs, the strength of the work top is improved.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the ribs produced from resilient material are accordion-shaped. By means of the accordion-shaped ribs, the area wherein the support member spreads in the work top can be changed by stretching the ribs. Thus, the ribs are enabled to extend longitudinally in a work top having any size.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the ribs have honeycomb-shaped cut-outs arranged side by side. By means of this simple structure, the area inside the work top is completely covered by the support member.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the support member is adhered to the upper plate and/or the lower plate so as to remain between the upper plate and the lower plate that form the work top.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the support member has the ribs with a thickness suitable for the thickness of the work top.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the support member is produced by the plastic injection method.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the household appliance is a washing machine.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the household appliance is a dishwasher.
The model embodiments relating to the household appliance realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention are illustrated in the attached figures, where:
Figure 1 – is the perspective view of a household appliance.
Figure 2 – is the perspective view of an upper plate and a lower plate.
Figure 3 – is the perspective view of a support member integrated with the upper plate related to an embodiment of the present invention.

The household appliance (1) comprises a body (2), and a work top (5) that is disposed on the body (2) and that has an upper plate (3) and a lower plate (4).
The household appliance (1) of the present invention comprises a support member (7) that is disposed between the upper plate (3) and the lower plate (4), that has more than one rib (6) connected to each other and extending between the upper plate (3) and lower plate (4), and that improves the strength of the work top (5). By means of the support member (7), the work top (5) is prevented from being deformed due to the forces that act on the work top (5) during transportation and usage. Moreover, by means of the plastic support member (7), the work top (5) is prevented from absorbing water and swelling.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the rib (6) is shaped as a hollow pipe and provides sound insulation.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the ribs (6) are strip-shaped and connected to each other crosswise. By means of the ribs (6) connected to each other crosswise, the work top (5) is supported against the forces acting thereon in the vertical and horizontal directions. Thus, the mechanical strength of the work top (5) is improved.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the ribs (6) produced from resilient material are shaped as accordions, that can be narrowed or widened so as to spread over the entire surfaces of work tops (5) in different sizes. Thus, the ribs (6) stretch and homogeneously spread inside the work top (5), and the work top (5) is enabled to have almost the same strength at every point.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the rib (6) has a hexagonal cut-out. By means of the hexagonal ribs (6) disposed adjacently between the upper plate (3) and the lower plate (4), almost entire surface of the work top (5) is covered with less support member (7) material. Thus, cost advantage is provided.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the support member (7) is connected to the lower plate (4) by adhesion.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the support member (7) is joined with the upper plate (3) and the lower plate (4) so as to remain between the upper plate (3) and the lower plate (4) that form the work top (5) by using welding methods such as ultrasonic, plasma, etc.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the support member (7) has the ribs (6) with a height suitable for the thickness of the work top (5). Thus, the support member (7) bears against the upper table (3) and the lower table (4) and supports the work top (5).
In an embodiment of the present invention, the support member (7) is produced by the plastic injection method.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the household appliance (1) is a washing machine.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the household appliance (1) is a dishwasher.
By means of the present invention, a household appliance (1) is realized, having a support member (7) that supports the work top (5) and that improves the strength of the work top (5) against forces acting thereon in the vertical and/or horizontal direction. By means of the support member (7), the work top (5) is prevented from being deformed when an object is placed onto the household appliance (1) or the products are stacked one above the other during transportation. By means of the plastic support member (7), the work top (5) is prevented from absorbing water and swelling, thus increasing customer satisfaction.

Claims (10)

  1. A household appliance (1) comprising a body (2) and a work top (5) that is disposed onto the body (2) and that has an upper plate (3) and a lower plate (4), characterized by a support member (7) that extends between the upper plate (3) and the lower plate (4) and that has more than one rib (6) connected to each other.
  2. A household appliance (1) as in Claim 1, characterized by the ribs (6) that are shaped as hollow pipes and that provide sound insulation.
  3. A household appliance (1) as in Claim 1 or 2, characterized by the strip-shaped ribs (6) that are connected to each other crosswise.
  4. A household appliance (1) as in Claim 1 or 2, characterized by the accordion-shaped ribs (6) that are produced from resilient material and that can be narrowed or widened so as to spread over the entire surfaces of work tops (5) in different sizes.
  5. A household appliance (1) as in Claim 1, characterized by the rib (6) that has a hexagonal cut-out.
  6. A household appliance (1) as in any one of the above claims, characterized by the support member (7) that is joined with the lower plate (4) by adhesion.
  7. A household appliance (1) as in any one of the above claims, characterized by the support member (7) that has the ribs (6) with heights suitable for the thickness of the work top (5).
  8. A household appliance (1) as in any one of the above claims, characterized by the support member (7) that is produced by the plastic injection method.
  9. A household appliance (1) as in any one of the above claims, which is a washing machine.
  10. A household appliance (1) as in any one of the Claims 1 to 8, which is a dishwasher.
