Definitions
- a reinforced guide catheter that is to say a device with a narrow and elongated tube shape that can be introduced into an artery, vein or excretory system of an organ, and presenting the particularity of its reinforcement, characterizes the present invention.
- the present invention seeks to provide additional support to a guide catheter in tortuous and complex anatomical arrangements, where normal catheters do not offer sufficient support and often yield to the forces exerted and the system falls during the procedure.
- the present invention is within the scope of catheters used in medicine.
- stents The difficulty for the implantation of different devices (“stents”, “coils”, occluders, “retreivable stents”, etc.) is a frequent problem in coronary and central nervous system interventions.
- failure to release stents occurs in 2, 7-3, 3% of interventions, especially in tortuous or calcified arteries and in chronic occlusions.
- Distal artery catheterization is another strategy, but it is limited by the possibility of dissection of proximal plaques or complete occlusion of the vessel during this type of maneuver.
- the solutions described do not provide sufficient stability and stiffness to the guide catheter along the aorta and the supraortic trunks, and do not prevent the system from “falling” into tortuous or difficult anatomies when treating intracranial pathologies with different materials such as stents, etc.
- the object of the present invention is a reinforced guide catheter comprising a second light, external to the light of the guide catheter, wherein said second light has an independent irrigation system which allows a high support guide to be introduced.
- This second light provided with a high-support guide provides the guide catheter with stability and stiffness along the aorta and supraaortic trunks, preventing the system from "falling" into tortuous or difficult anatomies, over all when treating intracranial pathologies with different materials such as stents.
- the two lights of the catheter object of the invention that of the guide catheter and that of the high-support guide are asymmetrical, one light is the working light of the catheter, through which all the devices that are required for treatment are introduced of pathologies (“stents”, “coils”, etc.), while the second light is small in size that allows the passage of only a high-support guide.
- the second light must be provided with a “Tuohy” key identical to the technique commonly used in all guide and introducer catheters, to avoid embolisms or thrombus formation.
- This second light is located in the outer wall of the main guide catheter and should not reach the distal end of the catheter, because its intention is to support the catheter in the aortic arch, but it is not necessary in the distal part of the catheter, so that it allows the distal part of the catheter to have a good navigability in tortuous arteries. Furthermore, having an outlet proximal to the distal end allows the guide to exit and be accommodated in another artery (for example external carotid artery), which would increase the stability of the system.
- another artery for example external carotid artery
- the joint arrangement of the two lights and which are asymmetrical and that the second light has a high support guide it is possible to give additional support to the guide catheter, which in tortuous and complex anatomical arrangements, where existing catheters do not offer sufficient support, and sometimes yield to the forces exerted, it is achieved that the system does not "fall" during the procedure.
- FIG 3 shows the guide catheter with balloon inside an arterial system (supraaortic trunks).
- the reinforced guide catheter comprises a first work channel or light (1) that has a second work channel or light (2) attached to its external wall, which in a preferred, but not limiting embodiment, it does not reach the distal end of the first working channel (1) because the intention of the second working channel or light (2) is to support the catheter in the aortic arch, but it is not necessary to give it to the distal part of the catheter, so that it allows the distal part of the catheter to have a good navigability in tortuous arteries.
- having an outlet proximal to the distal end allows the guide to exit and be accommodated in another artery (for example external carotid artery), which would increase the stability of the system.
- the second working channel or light (2) has a sufficient free light for the passage of a guide that offers a high support, understanding as such a support that allows the guide (3) to exit and be accommodated in another artery, which it results in an increase in stability.
- an independent irrigation system of the first work channel or light (1) is provided, and it has a connector to place a “Tuohy” key to avoid embolisms and the formation of thrombi
- the high support guide (3) has a torque (5) or element for rotation.
- the first working or light channel (1) also has a connector at its beginning, to place a “Tuohy” type valve (6).
- Figure 2 shows how the reinforced guide catheter object of the invention both lights run along a navigation artery (7) and the high support guide (3) that passes through the second working channel or light (2) is housed in a second artery (8) in order to increase the stability of the system and prevent the system from "falling".
- Figure 3 shows a guide catheter (1) provided with a balloon (9) for which this reinforced guide catheter system also has its function.
- the figures are not real scale, since in reality the caliber of the first working channel or light (1) is much larger than the second channel or light (2) used for the passage of a high support guide (3 ), and what the figures claim is to highlight this second channel or light (2).
