Abstract
The present invention relates to a dishwasher (1 ) comprising a body (2), a washing tub (3) provided on the body (2), in which washing is performed, and a drying pocket (4) provided between the washing tub (3) and the body (2), in which phase change material (PCM) is provided.
Description
The present invention relates to a dishwasher with improved drying efficiency.
In a dishwasher, after applying the steps of washing and rinsing, the dishes are dried at the drying step. The drying step is of utmost importance for the dishes to come out of the dishwasher shinier and cleaner. In the drying step, water droplets on the dishes are removed from the dishes by being evaporated. The evaporated water droplets condense by coinciding with cold surfaces and humid air, and is discharged from the washing cabinet. In order for the drying step to be efficient, it is necessary to remove water vapor rapidly from the washing cabinet or to condense water vapor for removing from the washing cabinet after completion of the step. However, the water droplets on the dishes being evaporated, re-condensed and being discharged from the washing cabinet takes time. Therefore, the drying step takes a long time, leading to an increase in program duration and energy consumption. Energy saving programs have a reduced drying performance.

H- Hot surface
The dishwasher (1) comprises a body (2), a washing tub (3) provided on the body (2), in which washing is performed, and a drying pocket (4) provided between the washing tub (3) and the body (2), in which phase change material (PCM) is provided. The phase change material (PCM) enables enhancing of the drying efficiency. The duration and energy used for drying is thus reduced.
The dishwasher (1) of the invention comprises a drying pocket (4) having a hot surface (H) on its portion contacting the washing tub (3), a cold surface (C) on its portion contacting the body (2), and a collection pocket (5) enabling collection of the phase change material (PCM) after it changes phase between the cold surface (C) and the hot surface (H). The drying pocket (4) is provided between the body (2) and the washing tub (3). The cold surface (C) is formed on the portion of the drying pocket (4) contacting the body(2), and the hot surface (H) is formed on the portion of the drying pocket (4) contacting the washing tub (3) due to hot water used in the washing tub (3). The phase change material (PCM) provided in the drying pocket (4), evaporates through the heat coming from the hot surface (H). Evaporating particles of the phase change material dispersedly move on the drying pocket (4) and condense by coinciding with the cold surface (C). The phase change material particles shifting to liquid phase again, are collected in the collection pocket (5).
In an embodiment of the invention, the dishwasher (1) comprises a collection pocket (5) arranged in the drying pocket (4) proximate to the cold surface (C), so as not to contact the hot surface (H). The collection pocket (5) is as close to the cold surface (C) as possible, and is far from the hot surface (H). By this, the phase change material particles moving as vapor in the drying pocket (4), condense by coinciding with the cold surface (C) and are collected in the collection pocket (5). Since the collection pocket (5) is further from the hot surface (H), the phase change material (PCM) does not evaporate again when it is in the collection pocket (5).
In an embodiment of the invention, the dishwasher (1) comprises an opening (6) opening from the collection pocket (5) towards the drying pocket (4), and a valve (7) enabling controlling of the opening (6). The phase change material (PCM) being in liquid phase in the collection pocket (5), is transferred to be used again to the drying pocket (4) by means of the opening (6). Transferring of the phase change material (PCM) from the collection pocket (5) to the drying pocket (4) is controlled by means of the valve (7) provided on the opening (6).
In an embodiment of the invention, the dishwasher (1) comprises a control unit (8) enabling controlling of the valve (7) according to the washing steps performed in the washing tub (3). The control unit (8) enables opening and closing of the valve (7) according to the washing steps performed in the dishwasher (1).
In an embodiment of the invention, the valve (7) enables the phase change material to stay in the collection pocket (5) in the washing step, and to be transferred from the collection pocket (5) to the drying pocket (4) in the drying step. The washing tub (3) needs to be kept hot in the washing step for sterilization of the items to be washed. Therefore, the phase change material is located in the collection pocket (5) in the washing step, and it does not draw heat from the washing cabinet. When the dishwasher (1) takes the drying step, the valve (7) is opened by means of the control unit (8), and the phase change material is transferred from the collection pocket (5) to the drying pocket (4). The phase change material evaporates by drawing heat from the washing tub (3) by means of the hot surface (H). The temperature of the washing tub (3) is thus reduced and the drying step is efficiently performed in a short time.
In an embodiment of the invention, the dishwasher (1) comprises a collection pocket (5) whose one surface is the cold surface (C). The cold surface (C) forms a surface of the collection pocket (5). By this, heat is not lost during heat transfer.
In an embodiment of the invention, the drying pocket (4) comprises a trapezoid shaped collection pocket (5) tapering from the hot surface (H) to the cold surface (C). By this, the collection pocket (5) is enabled to have a maximum volume further from the hot surface (H).
In an embodiment of the invention, the drying pocket (4) comprises a plurality of fins (9) provided on the cold surface (C). The cold surface area is increased by means of the fins (9) enabling falling of the temperature of the cold surface (C). The phase change materials can thus condense more rapidly.
In an embodiment of the invention, the drying pocket (4) comprises at least one fan (10) provided on the cold surface (C). Enforced transfer is applied and heat transfer is increased thanks to the fan (10). Thus the heat of the cold surface (C) is enabled to fall.
A dishwasher (1) with improved drying efficiency is realized with the present invention. The drying step is performed more efficiently by means of a drying pocket (4) in which phase change material (PCM) is provided, being used between the washing tub (3) and the body (2). The energy consumption and time used is thus reduced. The phase change material is used again at the same performance level thanks to the collection pocket (5) provided in the drying pocket (4). Using phase change material according to the washing steps of the dishwasher (1) is provided.
