  • the present invention relates to a laundry washing/drying machine comprising a front door having a mechanically improved front door locking mechanism.
  • the laundry washing/drying appliances such as washing machines comprise a rotary drum in which cloth items are placeable and accessible via a front door.
  • An electric motor provides the rotary drum to be driven by means of a pulley mechanism.
  • Laundry washing/drying machines have front doors typically allowing access into the rotary drum for loading and unloading the laundry to be processed.
  • a front door locking mechanism typically functions in the manner that a handle associated with a handle lever is rotatable to drive a hook lever, the latter being actuatable to lock or unlock the front door.
  • the handle lever and the hook lever therefore cooperate to initiate the proper positioning of the mechanical components such that an engagement end of the hook lever is displaced a certain distance to engage into or to be released from a locking slot.
  • a problem associated with the above-described mechanical design lies in that while a given user attempts to lock the front door of the laundry washing/drying machine by way of closing the same relative to the door opening, he/she may experience that although the front door is forced in the closing and locking direction, the door remains unlocked. In other words, it might occur that although sufficient pressure is applied, an engagement head of the lock mechanism cannot be urged into mating relation with a respective locking recess. This problem may typically lead to exertion of excessive force to cause breaking of the handle or handle cover. This might particularly occur if one persistently applies pressure under the mistaken impression that the engagement head can be further moved and locking can be as such effectuated. The situation will in the least cause non-initiation of the laundry washing/drying operation as the secured position of the engagement end cannot be ensured by the electronic control unit.
