Description

Collapsible Container with Dual or Multiple Compartments
Description
Technical Field
The present invention relates to a collapsible container comprising layers of edge-sealed polymeric film, forming compartments to keep and segregate different contents. If all layers of film are made of non-permeable materials, the segregations protect the contents from being moistened, oxidizing with air and enable avoidance of possible reactions among the contents. The formation of edge-sealed film provides collapsibility to the container to allow dispensing in a more complete and convenient manner, when one of the edges is cut or torn open. The material(s) used to form the film in the invention is subject to the contents packed, and in general, is cost-effective. The invention can be accompanied with exemplary packaging properties such as airtight, lightproof, leakproof, tamper-proof, non-corrosive and suitable for sterilization process.
Background Art
It is known that for products that require combination and mixing of different contents (ingredients) when in use, such as hair dye, are often associated with segregation and packaging issues. The dye is usually formed after reactions between colorant and oxidizing agent. To avoid early reactions and oxidization before use, both colorant and oxidizing agent are kept in separate containers (i.e. plastic bottle, metallic can or tube) and often supplied to consumers in more than one dose in each unit sold. In such containers, the content(s) may be subjected to oxidization before use, moistened, leakage and difficulty in dispensing right ratio; thus, resulting in less ideal outcome. Besides, the balance of dye after first use, which is being oxidized and supposed to be discarded is often kept for next use by many consumers. Although improved new design is available for better segregation, it may still be subjected to leakage and may not assure the right ratio of dispensed colorant and oxidizing agent.
Disclosure of Invention
The present invention comprises two outer layers and one or more inner layers that made of polymeric film. The non-permeable inner layer(s) allows segregation that prevents from early reaction among contents and oxidization before use; also, being moistened. The collapsibility of the container provides complete and convenient dispensing with predetermined ratio. The heat-sealed film also ensures the container is airtight, tamper- proof and leakproof. With coating on outer layers, the container becomes lightproof too.
The non-permeable segregation is meant to absolutely separate the contents that may change its properties when undesired, being oxidized with air or exposed for chemical reactions before use. Thus, the segregating barrier helps to maintain the quality and integrity of contents kept. For example, colorant and oxidizing agent in hair dye OR oil and spices in food preparation.
The outer layers of film provide collapsibility to the container. Conveniently, when one of the edges is cut or torn open, the materials are dispensed naturally from the respective compartment. Compared to conventional container, the collapsibility allows dispensing in a more complete and convenient manner with predetermined ratio of both contents. Outside the collapsible container, in the case of hair dye, chemical reaction between colorant and oxidizing agent takes place and produces dye to color hair with optimal results; OR in the case of food preparation, reaction between oil and spices provides most select aroma.
The combination of polymeric heat-sealed film with segregating function and collapsibility also ensures the container is airtight, lightproof, leakproof and tamper-proof to help maintaining product quality / integrity during storage. The flexibility in pack size and dispensability also provide usage and logistic convenience to consumers and operators. With the materials used and as a whole, the invention is more cost-effective.

Mode for Carrying Out Invention
Figure 1 shows three layers of film forming the collapsible container. 01 and 02 denote outer layers that made of polymeric film, 03 denotes inner layer. The film is developed for strength and heat sealability. The polymeric materials selected for the film is subject to the properties of the content kept; and the permeability and coating are subject to packaging requirements. 04 denotes the heat-sealed edges. 05 and 06 denote the compartments formed when edges are sealed. 07 & 08 denote different contents kept in the respective compartment to prevent mixing-up; in the event for prevention of undesirable early chemical reaction(s) among contents before use, the materials used to form 03 is non-permeable. The present invention is also not limited to formation of dual compartments but with flexibility to include additional of any amount of inner layer(s), subject to the desired segregated contents. 09 denotes an additional inner layer to form the first additional compartment. 10 denotes the first additional compartment; whereas 11 denotes content kept in the first additional compartment.
Industrial Applicability
The said properties of the present invention is made good for individual packing (one-time- use) especially for products that require mixing of different contents to achieve required properties when use. Besides cosmetic products, the suitability for sterilization process is also made good for packing cosmeceutical and pharmaceutical preparations, as well as foodstuff.
While the present invention has been described with respect to what is at present considered to be the preferred embodiments, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the disclosed embodiments. The invention is intended to cover various modifications and equivalent arrangements within the scope of the appended claims. The scope of the claims is to be accorded to the broadest interpretation.
