Definitions
- the present invention relates to a composition comprising an extruded combination of flax seed, wheat bran and sunflower flour.
- the present invention relates to the use of said composition as a nutritional supplement for animals, and the obtaining, by using said supplement, of milk enriched in conjugated linoleic acids (CLA) and omega-3.
- CLA conjugated linoleic acids
- Milk fat is mostly made up of a wide variety of fatty acids that make it one of the most complex compositions of nature.
- milk also contains other fatty acids that, although quantitatively minority, can play a nutritional role in the prevention of diseases.
- the ingestion of fatty acids of the omega-3 type has been profusely correlated with a decrease in cholesterol levels in the bloodstream and a decrease in the incidence of atherosclerosis in humans.
- ⁇ -linolenic acid c / s-9 c / s-12 c / s-15 C18: 3
- the omega-3 present in milk fat has low levels, far from those that European legislation set as minimums to consider it as a "source” or "rich” food in this component.
- rumenic acid (c / s-9 trans- ⁇ ⁇ C18: 2) one of the isomers of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), of which the fat of ruminants is the natural source of the diet in humans, has been recognized as an anticarcinogenic and antiatherogenic agent, as well as a generator of other beneficial effects already demonstrated in animal models.
- CLA conjugated linoleic acid
- the rumenic acid can also be increased naturally in milk by supplementing the diet of cattle with oilseed oils rich in linoleic acid (soy, safflower or sunflower).
- This fatty acid is transformed by biohydrogenation into vacnic acid (trans-11 C18: 1) in the digestive tract of ruminants and subsequently, by desaturation in the mammary gland, into rumenic acid, being incorporated into the milk lipids.
- vacnic acid trans-11 C18: 1
- rumenic acid being incorporated into the milk lipids.
- the use in the feed of ruminants of lipid supplements rich in linoleic acid can also generate in the rumen other fatty acids potentially harmful or with physiological effects not yet fully elucidated.
- rans-10 C18: 1 and rans-10 c / s-12 C18: 2 the latter an isomer of CLA to which anti-hypogenic properties have been attributed but with potential negative effects for certain population groups
- rans-10 C18: 1 and rans-10 c / s-12 C18: 2 the latter an isomer of CLA to which anti-hypogenic properties have been attributed but with potential negative effects for certain population groups
- the increase in milk of these intermediaries is particularly prominent when lipid supplements are added on rations with high levels of concentrate (Gómez-Cortés, P., Hervás, G., Mantecón, AR, Juárez, M., De Ia Fuente, MA and Frutos, P. (2008). J. Dairy ScL, 91, 1560-1569).
- These diets can also produce, in certain cases, a decrease in the productive performance of livestock.
- the present invention provides a composition comprising the extruded combination of the following products: flax seed, sunflower flour and wheat bran, for use as a food supplement, which ingested by the animal results in the production of ruminant milk from natural form with a healthier fatty acid profile, rich in omega 3, rumenic acid and vacnic acid, without significantly increasing levels of rans-10 C18: 1 and decreasing saturated fatty acids.
- composition of the present invention results in the production of a milk whose lipid fraction simultaneously combines the following nutritional advantages:
- the linoleic acid of the lipid supplement is reduced and the whole flax seed is replaced by an extruded combination that includes flax seed, wheat bran and sunflower flour and preferably at a level of inclusion in the ration of the animal of 200 to 300O g. per day.
- a first aspect of the present invention refers to a food supplement composition
- a food supplement composition comprising the extruded combination of (from now on composition of the invention):
- - flax seeds preferably in a proportion of between 20% and 80% by weight of the total composition, -saved wheat, preferably in a proportion between
- Y Sunflower meal preferably in a proportion between 10% and 40% by weight of the total composition.
- extruded combination is understood in the present invention the result of the fusion, transport, pressure and deformation to which the mixture of flax seeds, wheat bran and sunflower flour is subjected.
- wheat bran is understood in the present invention the result of a part of the grinding of the wheat grains, in particular that coming from the five outermost layers of the grain or also called husk.
- “sunflower flour” in the present invention is meant the fine powder that is obtained from the husked to which the sunflower seed is subjected and its subsequent extraction of the oil with solvents.
- a second aspect of the present invention refers to the use of the composition of the invention, as a food supplement for animals, preferably non-human mammals and more preferably ruminants.
- Another aspect of the present invention relates to a dietary supplement to the normal diet of an animal comprising the composition of the invention.
- composition of the invention as a dietary supplement in the diet of an animal, more specifically a ruminant such as sheep, cattle or goats, the production of milk enriched in ⁇ -linolenic acid and rumenic acid can be obtained.
- another aspect of the present invention relates to a "non-therapeutic" method for obtaining enriched milk comprising (from now on the method of the invention): a. administer to an animal a nutritional supplement comprising the composition of the invention; and b. extract the milk from said animal.
- a preferred embodiment of the process for obtaining milk comprises a dose of said dietary supplement of between 200 and 300Og daily of said composition, more preferably for at least seven days.
- the inclusion of the extruded combination of flax seed, wheat bran and sunflower flour, in the food ration of cattle, sheep and goats, can be used as an effective method for obtaining, naturally, milk with a profile healthier lipid for consumption, preferably human.
- healthy lipid profile in the present invention milk with a high content of vacénic acid (rans-11 C18: 1) (precursor of rumen acid), with low content of rans-10 C18: 1, in addition to enriched in Omega-3 and rumenic acid.
- Another aspect of the present invention relates to milk enriched in ⁇ -linolenic acid and rumenic acid obtainable simultaneously by the process of the invention.
- composition of the present invention as a nutritional supplement for the production of ruminant milk with a healthier lipid profile is shown.
- composition was prepared as a dietary supplement for animals. This composition contained 70% by weight of flax seed, 15% by weight of sunflower meal and 15% by weight of wheat bran.
- the preparation process is known by any expert in the field, where the previous components were mixed and subsequently said mixture was extruded.
- the animal in this case sheep, was fed the supplemented composition for a period of 60 days. During this time, the milk of said animal was analyzed with respect to its fatty acid content.
