  • the carrier may be defined by a base, an ejector in the form of a side, and two sides, one on each side of the ejector, in which moving the loaded carrier into the container includes moving the loaded carrier, including the base, ejector and two sides into the container.
  • Retracting the carrier from the container may include retracting the base and the two opposed sides, while retaining the ejector stationary in the container, thereby to retract the base from underneath the load as the ejector moves across the loading zone.
  • the method may include aligning the carrier with the container prior to moving the loaded carrier into the container.

  • the hydraulic rod 31 is extendible from the hydraulic cylinder 30 with the push plate 28 moving in unison with the hydraulic rod 31.
  • the cylinder holding plate 33 moves in unison with the cylinder 30, i.e. the push plate 28 and the cylinder holding plate 33 being movable relative to each other perpendicular to their planes along the cylinder/rod axis.
  • any load in the loading zone 14 will be discharged at an open end of the loading zone 14 distal from the cylinder holding plate. It is to be appreciated that the hydraulic cylinder 30 has to be telescopic to be able to move the full length of the loading zone.
  • the loader 10 further includes rollers, generally indicated by reference numeral 38 for rolling the carrier 12 into a container, such as 24.
  • the rollers are free running operatively in the direction of arrow 40.
  • the loader is provided with alignment means in the form of hydraulic lifts 44, 46 mounted on an undercarriage 47.
  • the lifts 44, 46 can thus move and align the carrier 12 to be level with the entrance to the container 24.
  • the undercarriage 47 is connectable to the container anchor plates to anchor the lifting unit 47 to the container 24 and to align the carrier 12 to the container's entrance.
  • the load 48 is loaded onto the container 24 by anchoring the undercarriage 47 to the container anchor points.
  • the lifts 44, 46 are operated to align the carrier vertically with the container entrance.
  • the cylinder holding plate 33 is anchored to the undercarriage 47, i.e. to secure it in position relative to the container and the hydraulic rod 31 causes the push plate 28 to move away from the cylinder holding plate 33.
  • the carrier moves in unison with the push plate 28 on the rollers 38 into the container 24 until the carrier 12 is completely received into the container.
  • the loader 10 is now prepared for ejection of the load 48 by retracting the rod 31 but allowing the cylinder 30 and cylinder holding plate 33 to move freely towards the push plate 28, until the rod 31 is fully retracted into the cylinder 30.
  • the cylinder holding plate 33 is then attached to the carrier 12, the push plate 28 is released from the carrier 12 and the holding plate 33 attaches itself to the carrier 12.
  • the rod 31 is again extended urging the push plate 28 away from the cylinder holding plate 33, but the cylinder holding plate 33 being connected to the carrier 12 extracts the carrier from underneath the load as the push plate 28 moves over the base 16 of the carrier 12.
  • the carrier 12 rolling on the rollers 38 back onto the undercarriage 47.
  • the description of the loader 10 in use illustrates a method of loading a container 24.
  • the inventor believes that the invention, as illustrated provides a new method of loading a container, especially with materials that are difficult to load into a container, from a rear entrance, such as scrap metal, or the like.
  • the invention is not limited to loading of loose materials.
  • the invention may also be useful in the loading of machinery, pallets, loose boxes, steel coils or any other load that can be loaded into a container.
