Abstract

It is intended to provide a method for pretreatment of a cellulosic biomass raw material capable of dissociating lignin from a cellulosic biomass raw material, decreasing the molecular weight of hemicellulose, and reducing the crystallinity of cellulose at low energy without using a large device. The cellulosic biomass raw material and water are continuously fed between a pair of whetstones 2 and 3 spaced apart at a predetermined distance and facing each other and the cellulosic biomass raw material is ground while fixing the whetstone 2 and rotating the whetstone 3. The feeding amount of the water is controlled such that the temperature of the cellulosic biomass raw material to be ground is from 50 to 100ºC. The control of the feeding amount of the water is performed by feedback control of a measured temperature of the cellulosic biomass raw material to be ground. The cellulosic biomass raw material is rice straw.
