Abstract

In treating arsenic in the form of diarsenic trioxide, it is intended to provide a method which satisfies the elution standard (in accordance with Environmental Ministerial Announcement No.13) and by which scorodite showing a good filtration performance a high stability can be formed at a high reproducibility without resorting to any troublesome procedure. Namely, diarsenic trioxide is treated by a treatment method which comprises: the percolation step wherein water is added to diarsenic trioxide to give a slurry and then the slurry is heated and arsenic is percolated under adding an oxidizing agent to thereby give a liquid (percolate); the deoxidization step of removing the oxidizing agent remaining in the percolate to give a liquid preparation; and the crystallization step wherein arsenic in the liquid preparation is converted into scorodite crystals.
