Abstract
This invention provides a membrane separation apparatus which can reliably discharge air, which stays within a filtered water pipe and becomes an obstacle to stable membrane filtration operation, at the start of back washing from the filtered water pipe, and further can significantly reduce the waste of washing water in the discharge of air within the pipe. The membrane separation apparatus comprises a plurality of immersion-type membrane modules immersed in a treatmetn tank and a filtered water pipe extended from a filtered water take-out port in the membrane module. In the midway of the filtered water pipe, a stem pipe for putting together filtered water pipes extended from individual immersion-type membrane modules is provided. An upward branch pipe for evacuation and means for evacuation are provided in the stem pipe. A vertically extended thick pipe part, which has a larger inner diameter than the other filtered water pipes, is provided in the stem pipe on the downstream side of the evacuation means.
