Abstract

An article dividing device in which an article is prevented from being caught when a relay plate returns to a basic position. The article dividing device (2) functions such that, when the relay plate (22) is driven to close a gap between an upstream-side conveyance plate (21) and a downstream-side conveyance plate (23), the article dividing device (2) causes an article (50) conveyed from the upstream-side conveyance plate (21) to be delivered to the downstream-side conveyance plate (23) via the relay plate (22) and, when the relay plate (22) is driven to open the gap, the article dividing device (2) allows the article (50) conveyed from the upstream-side conveyance plate (21) to drop from the gap. To close the gap, the relay plate (22) is moved from the upstream-side conveyance plate (21) toward the downstream-side conveyance plate (23), and the speed of the movement is controlled to be higher than the speed of the article (50) conveyed from the upstream-side conveyance plate (21) to the relay plate (22).
