Abstract

　偏光板（３２）と反射型の液晶パネル（２０）との間に、視認制限すべき方向を設定するネガティブＣプレート（３１）を配置する。ネガティブＣプレート（３１）のリタデーションは、液晶パネル（２０）と合わせて、片道の光路について、ｎλ／４＋λ／８（ｎは、０及び正負の整数）の位相差を入射した直線偏光に対して発生させるように設定されている。これにより、視認制限すべき方向を低コストで自由に設定して狭視野角化を図り得る液晶表示装置を提供する。
