  • the central axes 224 of the cigarettes lie parallel to the hinge axis 210 of the lid (203) and also in this case to the major dimension a of the pack.
  • the consumer may remove a cigarette through the access opening, by a movement along the axis 224 after removing the removable portion (101 ) and at least a corner of any foil or other wrapping of the cigarettes.
  • the pack can be reclosed after opening by a normal pivoting movement of the lid about the hinge axis (210) with the inner frame acting in the manner of the frame of a conventional hinged-lid pack, to exert frictional and/or over-centre action on the lid as it moves.
