Abstract

It is intended to provide an agent for modifying a liquid or a gas which has a high durability without showing drop-off of the surface upon impact or friction, can be safely used in plants or equipments for manufacturing semiconductors, foods, automobiles, combustion devices such as boilers or oil heaters and so on where the contamination with metal powders or dusts results in a serious problem, is very widely usable for various purposes including air or water purification, sterilization, deodorization, fouling prevention, keeping food freshness, prevention of edible oils from degradation, reduction in fossil fuel usage and so on, and shows good performance in production without needing any troublesome step such as burning at a high temperature. The agent for modifying a liquid or a gas as described above comprises a base made of a metal and a mechanical alloy layer formed on the surface of the base in the state of an alloy.
