Abstract

【課題】化学強化処理を行うことなく、化学的研磨における研磨深さを非常に少なくして 十分な円環強度を有する情報記録ディスク用ガラス基板を得る。 【解決手段】ドーナツ状の磁気ディスク用ガラス基板の内周部端面を機械的研磨により表面粗さをRmaxで9nm以下とし、引き続き、該内周部端面を化学的研磨してその表層を2μm以上研磨除去する。内周部端面の表面粗さを、機械研磨により従来にない鏡面仕上げとすることで、化学的研磨における研磨深さを従来より低減しても十分な円環強度が得られる。研磨深さは5μm未満で十分である。
