Abstract

A lash adjuster of light weight which can cope with a high rotation engine. A bottomed containing hole (14) is opened in the lower surface at the oscillatory end (7C) of an aluminum alloy arm (7) oscillating as a cam (6) rotates, a step portion (19) having a small diameter is provided on the upper side of the inner circumference of the containing hole (14), a tubular steel nut member (15) having upper and lower open ends is fitted in the containing hole (14) such that the upper end face of the nut member (15) abuts against the step portion (19), a protrusion (20) for locking the nut member (15) in the containing hole (14) is provided on the inner circumference at the lower end of the containing hole (14), a screw rod (16) having a male screw (22) on its outer circumference for engaging with a female screw (23) formed on the inner circumference of the nut member (15) is provided, a spring (17) built in the gap between the upper end face of the screw rod (16) and the bottom (27) of the containing hole (14) urges the screw rod (16) downward, and the lower end face of the screw rod (16) is made to abut against the valve stem (5) of an operating valve.
