Abstract

A trisazo compound which in its free acid form is represented by the following formula (1): (1) (wherein group A represents substituted phenyl or substituted naphthyl; R1 represents, e.g., C1-4 alkyl optionally substituted by carboxy; R2 represents cyano, etc.; R3 and R4 each independently represents hydrogen, sulfo, etc.; R5 to R10 each independently represents hydrogen, sulfo, C1-4 alkyl, etc.; and the ring substituted by R5 to R7 and the ring substituted by R8 to R10 each represents a 1,4-phenylene ring, etc.). The trisazo compound has high solubility in a medium comprising water as the main component. A high-concentration aqueous solution thereof and an ink composition containing this solution are stable even in long-term storage. Printing with the ink composition gives images having an extremely high density. Even when printed with the high-concentration solution, the images are free from bronzing. The printed images have excellent fastness, especially both of light resistance and ozone resistance. The trisazo compound is hence useful as a dye compound for black inks.
