Abstract

This invention relates to ligand-gated ion channels in the nicotinic superfamily and methods for constraining their subunit composition. This invention provides a polypeptide chain comprising four or five of the subunits of a ligand-gated ion channel. This polypeptide chain is able to form a functional ligand-gated ion channel in combination with another subunit or on its own respectively.
