Abstract

A biodegradable polymer blend which has thermoplasticity, flexibility, and practical strength/elongation and is economical. It comprises a product of starch hydrolysis/polycondensation which comprises a starch-derived main chain and, incorporated in at least part thereof, a flexible linear organic group, e.g., a group represented by -O-(C=O)-O-, -CH2-(C=O)-CHR1-O-, or -((O-R2)x-(O-(C=O)-R3)y)m-Oz-, and other biodegradable resin(s), wherein the content of the product of starch hydrolysis/polycondensation is 20 to 80 wt.%. In the formulae, R1 represents hydrogen, C1 or higher alkyl, C6 or higher aryl, or C1 or higher alkoxy; R2 and R3 each represents C1 or higher alkyl or C6 or higher aryl; x, y, and z each is 0 or 1, provided that x+y is 1 or 2; and m is an integer of 1 to 3,100.
