Abstract

The invention relates to a device and a method for monitoring the oxygen content of a gaseous atmosphere in a chamber, surrounded by an oxygen-containing gas. According to the invention, a bypass connected to the chamber is provided, which extracts an aliquot of the gas atmosphere and which has means for determining a parameter which permits inferences about the oxygen content of the gas atmosphere to be drawn. The parameter which permits inferences to be drawn about the oxygen content of the gas atmosphere is preferably determined by means of a lambda probe. The invention further relates to a device and a method for controlling the oxygen content of a gas atmosphere in a chamber, which is surrounded by an oxygen-containing gas. According to the invention, the composition of the gas atmosphere within the chamber is regulated such that the variation in oxygen content of the gas atmosphere is essentially zero.
