In particular, the embodiment has application to the welding of agricultural grade piping.

With relative movement of the carriages 17 and 19 towards and away from each other the pair of clamps on each carriage are also caused to move towards and away from each other.
  • Each clamp 21 comprises a first upstanding portion 23 which is fixed to the respective carriage and a second portion 25 which is pivotally supported at one side of the first portion 23.

  • the configuration of the heating element is such that it will maintain a substantially constant temperature which is at the desired temperature to effect melting of the plastics material of which the lengths of pipe are formed.
  • the carriage supports a cutting element 43 which is also supported from a second radial arm 45 to be moveable from a position located to one side of the clamps as shown at Figure 1 and a position located between the clamps as shown at Figure 2.
  • the cutting element is driven from a power source associated with arm 45 to effect its rotation.
  • the cutting element comprises a pair of discs 47 which jointly provide a pair of opposed axial faces which are perpendicular to the central axis intersecting the circular spaces defined by the clamping members 21.

  • the opposed ends of the lengths of pipe can be trimmed by utilisation of the cutting element 43. This is effected by locating the ends in abutting relationship to each other and moving the cutting element 43 into the engaged position as shown at Figure 2 and causing the abutting ends to be cut by the spaced cutting edges whereby the ends will then be cut to provide a pair of clean substantially transverse faces. Once both ends have been cut the cutting element can then be removed from between the clamps and the lengths of pipe can be welded together as described above.

Abstract

L'invention porte sur un appareil de soudage bout à bout d'une canalisation en plastique comprenant une base (11), une paire de colliers de serrage (21), chacun étant destiné à recevoir une partie finale de la longueur d'une canalisation en plastique (50), les colliers de serrage reposant sur la base face à face, ce qui fait que les extrémités des parties finales reposant sur les colliers de serrage sont quasiment coaxiales. Les colliers de serrage sont en mesure de se rapprocher et de s'éloigner l'un de l'autre et présentent une dimension axiale permettant de serrer une partie de la longueur de la partie finale respective adjacente à l'extrémité. On prévoit également un élément chauffant (39) reposant sur la base adjacente à une position intermédiaire des colliers de serrage et susceptible de se déplacer d'une première position entre les colliers de serrage à une seconde position écartée latéralement de la première position. Les faces planes opposées de l'élément chauffant sont disposées face à face par rapport aux colliers de serrage et sont transversales par rapport à l'axe central des parties finales lorsque l'élément chauffant se trouve dans la première position. Les colliers de serrage sont dotés d'un organe de préhension (33) permettant un mouvement mutuel des colliers de serrage.
