Wenn einem verstreckten Faserverband in unmittelbarem Anschluss an das Ausgangswalzenpaar eines Streckwerks ein Spinndrall erteilt wird, dann entsteht an der Ausgangsklemmlinie des Ausgangswalzenpaares ein so genanntes Spinndreieck. Dies rührt daher, dass der verstreckte Faserverband mit einer bestimmten Breite das Streckwerk verlässt und zu einem Faden relativ kleinen Durchmessers zusammengedreht wird. Das Spinndreieck enthält Randfasern, die nicht ordnungsgemäß in den verdrehten Faden eingebunden werden und somit wenig oder nichts zur Festigkeit des ersponnenen Fadens beitragen. Man ist daher in jüngerer Zeit dazu übergegangen, der Verzugszone des Streckwerks eine so genannte Verdichtungszone nachzuordnen, die ihrerseits von einer Lieferklemmlinie auslaufseitig begrenzt wird. Erst danach wird dem Faden die Spinndrehung erteilt. In der Verdichtungszone werden die Fasern gebündelt oder verdichtet, wodurch der Faserverband beim Verlassen der Lieferklemmlinie so schmal ist, dass das gefürchtete Spinndreieck nicht mehr entsteht.
