Abstract

The aim of the invention is to improve effectiveness and/or efficiency of a strainer granulator for material in lumps. A perforated sheet metal (2) which winds round a rotating retainer (6) extends into the fourth quadrant in the direction of rotation of the retainer (6). Striking bars (7) of the retainer (6) brush the material along the perforated sheet metal (2) up to the fourth quadrant, whereby said material has to be disintegrated. Said bars are arranged in an inclined manner. A shorter sojourn time of the material in the strainer granulator thus results and a smaller portion of powder-shaped up to very finely grained material thus results, whereby grain size distribution is small and said material has to be disintegrated. Said powder-shaped up to very finely grained material is not useful for immediate further processing.

Description

Siebgranulator für grobstückiges Material Sieve granulator for coarse material

Material in powder form coming from the production process cannot easily be further processed into smaller compact units, such as tablets. This is due on the one hand to the fact that it is poorly free-flowing and on the other hand to the fact that when small units are pressed together it contains a relatively large amount of air, which impairs the cohesion of the material. It is therefore common to first compact the pulverulent material into flakes in a roller press under high pressure and then to comminute these coarse flakes in a granulator to form a free-flowing granulate. The granules of this granulate contain practically no air and can be easily compressed into smaller units such as tablets.

When comminuting in a granulator, the aim is to process the material as gently as possible in order to keep the resulting fine fraction small with the smallest possible particle size distribution, because otherwise the flowability of the granulate is poor, which in turn results in fine grain screening and a return of a not inconsiderable proportion of the granulate to the roller press and again needs to be fed to the granulator. This goal is only partially achieved with a known screen granulator. Such a sieve granulator consists of a trough-shaped work space, which essentially consists of a sieve or perforated plate arranged on its periphery and an open, cylindrical cage rotating in the work space, which has on its circumference a plurality of longitudinal struts of the cage which form moldings when rotating the cage, strip the coarse-grained material to be granulated along the perforated sheet or sieve. The perforated sheet or screen extends over the area of the second and third quadrants of the work area.

When operating such a screen granulator, it has been shown that the large-piece material to be granulated, which is filled into the open cage from above and is to be granulated, is processed for a relatively long time in the working space, and granules with an undesirably high proportion of fines and a relatively large particle size distribution result.

The invention has for its object to provide a screen granulator that granulates coarse material more effectively than the known screen granulator.

This object is achieved in that the perforated sheet or screen wraps around the cage in the direction of rotation up to the region of the fourth quadrant. When operating with the sieve granulator according to the invention, it has been found that the dwell time of the material in the work space is considerably reduced and the fine fraction that is produced can be considerably reduced.

In this sense, it has an advantageous effect if the moldings made of flat material are set at an angle so that they form tapered pockets with the perforated sheet or sieve, which carry the material to be shredded up to about the upper apex of the cage.

The invention is explained in more detail below with reference to a drawing which shows the sieve granulator in a lateral vertical section.

The sieve granulator has a trough-shaped working space 1, which is formed by a perforated sheet metal 2 and end walls 3, and a funnel-shaped housing 4 with outlet 5, which accommodates the working space 1. Arranged in the trough-shaped working space 1 is a rotationally driven, cylindrical cage 6, which has 7 axial longitudinal struts on the circumference as scraper bars. The perforated metal sheet 2 wraps around the cage 6 up to the area of the fourth quadrant in the direction of rotation of the cage 6. Because of the obliquely positioned moldings 7, when the cage 6 is rotating, coarse material 8 is poured into the work area 1 from above into the area of the fourth quadrant to the Streaked along perforated sheet. This means that the working area for the granulation extends into this area. The material not pushed through the perforated sheet 2 into the funnel-shaped collecting space of the housing 4 then falls back into the open cage 6 and is again struck by the moldings 7 from the lower area of the working space 1 along the perforated sheet 2 into transported upper area.

Because of the enlarged working area of the sieve granulator according to the invention, the dwell time of the coarse material to be comminuted in the working space 1 is short. For the same reason, a smaller proportion of the coarse material is undesirably crushed. The yield for granules to be processed immediately is therefore high. In cases where minimization of the fine fraction is not important, significantly higher throughputs can be achieved with the same machine size. Depending on the shredding task and the product, performance increases of up to a factor of 3 were measured. The effort required for this surprisingly great technical success is not greater than the effort required for a conventional sieve granulator because it only consists in the larger wrap area of the cage 6 provided with the moldings 7.
