Abstract

A composition comprising alpha-HMX particles has at least one second material coated on the particles. A variety of second materials can be used, including mixtures of two, three, or more different such materials. One suitable example of a second material is an energetic material, such as beta-HMX, RDX, TNT, ammonium nitrate, or a mixture thereof. Another suitable example of a second material is a fuel, such as aluminum, lithium hydride, lithium aluminum hydride, or a mixture thereof. Yet another suitable example of a second material is one or more polymerizable monomers. Durable alpha-HMX containing articles can be formed from a plurality of particles, the particles comprising alpha-HMX coated and/or impregnated with a second material.
