Abstract

The invention relates to a method for purifying the raw juice resulting from sugar refining, whereby said juice is treated with calcium hydroxide. The invention is characterised in that the raw juice is treated with a mixture of calcium hydroxide and a clay mineral selected from the smectite and kaolin groups, whereby the proportion of calcium hydroxide in the mixture is less than 80 wt. % and the clay mineral, residual calcium hydroxide and poorly soluble calcium salts thus formed are separated from the purified thin juice.
