Abstract

A device to make an adjustable amount of particles in a gas flow so that these can easily be transported by the gas flow through a tube or another channel (19) from a container (1) to an orifice, at which for example an applying device can be arranged. The device is primarily aimed for particles in the shape of short fibres of synthetic material, such as for example polyamide with a length of less than five millimetres, but can be used for example for particles that form a powder. By that the amount of fibres or other particles in an easy way can be adjusted, an exact adjustment of the density of a layer that is applied can be done, at which an even layer is made and unnecessary material waste is avoided. The most important characteristic of the device is a perforated part (3) in which a rotating part (4) is arranged so that it reaches towards the perforated part and that a gas flow is arranged to sweep over or around the perforated part (3) so that it leads away the particles, that from the container is moved through the perforated part.

Description

DEVICE FOR DELIVERING AN ADJUSTABLE AMOUNT OF PARΗCLES
By the present invention is solved the problem to produce an adjustable amount of particles in a flow of gas, so that these easily can be transported by the gas flow through a tube or another channel from a container to an orifice, at which for example an device for application can be arranged. Primarily, the invention is intended for particles in shape of short fibres of synthetic material, like for example polyamide with a length of up to five millimeters, but the invention can also be used for example for particles that form a powder. Owing to that the amount of fibres or other particles in an easy way can be adjusted, it also makes it possible to accurately adjust the density of a layer that is applied, an even layer can be made, and unnecessary material waste can be avoided.
According to the invention, the problem is solved by a device for delivering an amount of fibre or powder from a container that is formed with a perforated part at the container's bottom, mainly in the shape of a frustrum of a cone, that a rotating part iε arranged inside the perforated part, which rotating part carries projections in the shape of bristle or another material that carries a suitable amount of fibres or other particles from the container and over the holes in the perforated part, and that a flow of air or another gas sweeps around the perforated part and brings about the fibres or other particles away from the container. The inner rotating part with the projections has preferably the same outer contour as the inner contour of the perforated part.
Further characteristics of the present invention are described in the following claims. The invention is now to be more closely described with reference to the drawing, in which
Figure 1 schematically illustrates the construction of a device according to the invention, mainly in cross- section, Figure 2 illustrates enlarged a portion of the device according to Figure 1, with its perforated and rotating parts, and Figure 3 illustrates a partial view from above according to A-A in Figure 1.
An embodiment of a device according to the invention in accordance with the figures consists of an essentially cylinder shaped container 1 with a lid 12 and a bottom that is made of a somewhat funnel shaped part 11 that in the center continues into a perforated part 3. The perforated part 3 is in this embodiment shaped as a truncated cone with a smaller cone angle than the funnel shaped part 11, these can also be of the same cone angle.
As is closer described in Figure 2, which enlarged illustrates the supplying section 2, consisting of the rotating part 4 and the perforated part 3, with one half of the perforated part broken up, the main part of the surface of the perforated part is perforated with holes 21. In the embodiment the holes 21 are on the whole circular, but can alternatively be oblong, square, or of other shapes. The rotating part 4 is provided with a spiral shaped projection 8 that reaches out from its conical surface towards the perforated part. The projection 8 usually reaches out so far that its end surface touches or almost touches the inner surface of the perforated part. This can be adjusted by that the position of the rotating part is vertically adjustable, which can be done with a nut (not illustrated) on the spindle 5 or in another way. By that the projection preferably is carried out of dense bristle or another indulgent material the degree of bearing on can also be adjusted. The spindle 5 transmits a rotating driving movement from a motor 6 via a gearing 9 placed under the supplying section 2 to the rotating part 4. The spindle 5 also reaches a bit up in the container 1 and a pair of wings 7 are arranged on the spindle 5, at which the wings 7 are angled so that they when rotating strive for lifting the contents of the container 1 so that it will not be too packed at the supplying section 2. One or more guiding elements 10 are arranged firmly mounted at the bottom of the container at the orifice of the supplying section 2, whereby the material in the container is prevented from rotating with the rotating part but is brushed down into the supplying section by the top part of the projection 8.
A fan 18 with a fan motor 17 is arranged with a suction channel 16 and a blowing side with a delivering channel 19 in shape of a tube or alike. The suction channel 16 is connected to a space 13 that surrounds and forms a chambre around the perforated part 3. To the chambre 13 air or another gas is sucked via an inlet channel 14, in which an adjustable valve 15 is arranged. The gas flow, that from the inlet channel 14 sweeps over and passes the perforated part 3, is controlled by the adjustable valve 15. Also, the degree of low pressure is controlled in the space 13 that influences the gas flow through the holes 21 in the perforated part 3 from the container 1, the lid of which allows an inflow of gas. The mixture 20 of particles or fibres and gas is emitted through the delivering channel 19 to an applying device or another device that can be used with the mixture.
The invention has been specially developed for synthetic fibres that are to be applied to fibre flock. The fibres are electrically charged in the applying device or at the transportation to the applying device and an evenly flocked surface can be achieved on different products or parts of products. The material of application can be of fibres of for example Epoxy, Polyamide, Polyester and PVC. By the design of the embodiment according to the present invention the flow of fibres or other particles can exactly be controlled by different adjustment possibilities. By adjusting the velocity of the fan motor 17 and the opening of the valve 15 both the velocity and the measure of the air flow at the perforated part can be controlled. Besides adjusting of the velocities of the fan motor 17 and the motor 6 for driving of the rotating part, and adjustment of the valve 15, the distance between the rotating part and the perforated part can also be changed. Moreover, the perforated part can preferably be replaceable to parts of different perforation, the rotating part can be replaceable to such with different types of projections and projections placed and grouped in different ways. The wings 7 and the guiding elements 10 can be adjustable and replaceable.
The invention is not limited to the above mentioned embodiments but can be varied in many ways within the limits of the claims.
