Abstract

La présente invention concerne un procédé et un dispositif destinés à réguler, dans une ligne de coulée continue, l'écoulement des parties non solidifiées (13) pendant la coulée d'un métal dans un moule ouvert sur ses deux extrémités par rapport au sens de coulée. Cette régulation s'effectue au moyen d'un agitateur de moule, biphase ou multiphase, constitué d'au moins deux sous-ensembles agitateurs. Chaque sous-ensemble agitateur est constitué, d'une part d'un noyau magnétique (14a, 14b, 14c, 14d), et d'autre part d'un enroulement, autrement dit d'une phase, alimenté en courant alternatif (15a, 15b, 15c, 15d) et disposé en feuille bobinée autour du noyau. Les noyaux et les enroulements en feuille bobinée intégrés aux sous-ensembles agitateurs sont conçus et agencés de façon à créer à l'intérieur du moule un champ magnétique. Au niveau des noyaux, la principale composante de force du champ magnétique, By, est orientée transversalement au sens de coulée. Au niveau des enroulements, la principale composante de force du champ magnétique, Bz, est orientée parallèlement au sens de coulée. La régulation de l'écoulement du métal en fusion au niveau et à proximité du ménisque résulte d'un ajustage de la position des noyaux par rapport au ménisque. Cet ajustage vise à ce que l'effet d'une force se manifestant dans le métal en fusion, au niveau et à proximité du ménisque, soit modifié par la coopération entre d'une part les courants I induits dans le métal en fusion, et d'autre part les différentes composantes de la force de champ, respectivement By et Bz.
