Abstract

A solid concentrate used to prepare an acid aqueous mordant for metal surfaces contains solid, water-and/or acid-solulble (a) fluoride and nitrate compounds, preferably as an alkali and/or ammonium salt; (b) magnesium compounds, preferably as nitrate, sulphate and/or citrate salts, or (b2) calcium and/or aluminium compounds, preferably as nitrate and/or citrate salt, and possibly (c) an in water acid-reacting compound, preferably as citric acid, amidosulphuric acid and/or alkali/ammonium dihydrogen phosphate. In a preferred embodiment, the concentrate may further contain a solid, water- and/or acid-soluble oxidizing agent. It is particularly appropriate to keep the components that contain constitutional water apart from constitutional water-free components. The concentrate may be made available for use as portion packages for preparing a defined amount of mordant.
