UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.

DESIGN FOR A STAlR-CARPET BUTTON.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID WALKER, acitizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Stair-Carpet Buttons or Fasteners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertaius to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a stair-carpet button of my new design. Fig. 2 is a plan of the same; and Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse section taken on line :13, Fig. 1.
As shown in the drawings, the leading or material feature of my new design consists in a stair-carpet button having two leaves, one of which is rectangular in general outline with scalloped edges and the other of which is in the shape of a rectangle having each of its free corners out 01f by a pair of concave curves.
In said drawings, a and b indicate the two leaves of a stair-carpet button of mynew design, said leaves diverging at substantially a right angle. One of said leaves, as a, is rectangular in general outline, and the free edges are ornamented bya series of scallops c. The other leaf b is in the shape of a rectangle having its two free corners cut obliquely off by pairs of concave curves d. A screw-hole e is at the middle of the dihedral angle between the two leaves, and the surface of the button is ornamented by oval figures f, raised from the surfaces of the two leaves, and by circular spots g, disposed upon the scallops of the rectangular leaf a.
What I claim as new is The design for a stair-carpet button, as herein shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 10th day of August, 1899.
