TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

.Be it known that I, CHARLES OOOTS, of the city of Rochester, county of Monroe, and State of New York, have invented or produced a new and original Design for a. Fence and Post; and I hereby declare thatithe following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.

The idea of my design consists in constructing of wood or metal a fence and post, said fence to have an open panelled fretwork, a a, at bottom, with upright divisions b b between each pattern of panel fretwork, directly under each ofthe balusters c c above, and between each ofthe divisions b b au open panelled fretwork, a a, with perpendicular sides, and segment arch top and bottom, and joined on to the said divisions b b also bottom and top rails d d, with the four arms, as shown in Figure 1. Said divisions b b, panel fretwork a a, and arms, all being moulded on edge, as shown at e e, in section, Figure 2. l The upper section of fence Ato be formed with perpendicular balusters c c, having moulded bases and carved caps ff to each, and finished above cap to the under side of top rail g g, with a segment arch, z h, from one baluster to another, the same being continuous. Said balusters c c, and their caps and bases ff, also segment arches L z, are to be moulded, as shown at z t' in section, iig. 2; the whole to be capped with the rail g g, moulded, as shown atj, in section, fig. 2. The post k is to be square and the same pattern on all sides. The base Zto be wider than the shaft 'm of post, and moulded up to shaft, the same section as the middle rail d d of fence, and to mitre in with same. The corners of the shaft m are t0 be moulded quarter round the same, starting above the base Z and finished out below pendent drops a s. The faceof the shaft of post m m to be panelled in firm, as shown in fig. 1, with raised and sunk panel mouldings 'n n. The cap o o on the shaft m m to be moulded, as shown, with a segment pediment, pp, formed in said cap mm, on each side. To be pendent drops q q on each corner of shaft, connected together with a. segment arch, r, said pendants and arch to be moulded on inner edge with a core; bottom of the pendants g q to be finished with carved drops s s, as shown in iig. 1. Above the said cap o o and pendants q q, there will be a square section, t t, surmounted with the carved ornament u u, the bottom of which will be square, and to run gradually into or round the remaining height; said ornament to be carved at bottom and top, and panelled in middle section, and moulded between carving and panels, as represented in fig. 1.

In the mechanical construction of said fence and post I make no claim for any original invention, the same being put together in the usual manner.
