Description

'l2-l7. OR D 26,872 EX DESIGN.
W. L. PIKE.
CARRIAGE BODY.
No. 26,872. Patented Apr. 6, 1897.
WITNESSES M/LENTOR f.- flTTOR/VEYS UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
\VILLIAM L. PIKE, OF GROTON, NEIV YORK.
DESIGN FOR A CARRIAGE-BODY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 26,872, dated April 6, 1897'.
Application filed February 5, 189']. Serial No. 622,224. Term of patent 7 years.
Io (Li/Z whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM L. PIKE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Groton, in the county of Tompkins and State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Carriage-Body, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, showing a part thereof.
The nature of my design is fully represented in the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 is a side View of my design for a carriage-body, showing the end-board down; and Fig. 2 is a front View of the front end thereof.
The main portion or box A has a slightlycurved rear end B, with a straight bottom extending as far forward as the wheel-house or undercut C, which forms an arch or sen1icircular recess in the forward end of the box. The bottom portion is then extended forwardly in a curved line to the end D, upon which is mounted the upright dashboard E, comprising three panels e,with rounded Wings 6 at each side thereof.
Rising above the panels'A is a rail 6 conforming to the contour of the top of the dashboard. Surmounting the same and above the rail is located an ornamental bar 6 terminating in coiled ends.
The upper portion of the body, starting at the front end D, follows the curve of the lower portion and then abruptly rises in a sharp curve till it joins the line of the top F,which it then follows in a straight line to the rear end B.
From a point near the rear of the wheelhouse the door G is seen, which extends upward in a vertical line and is hinged to the body, as shown at g. This door occupies, 40
when closed, the space in the side of the body indicated by the heavy lines, and, as will be seen, is wider at the top than at the bottom, so that when opened the door can spring and not touch the wheel.
The top F of the boX is surmounted by a frame f, extending along its sides, and the ends of the frame are rounded, as at f. lhe front and rear ends of the frame have an ornamental scroll on their respective tops, and ornamented posts f are located between the rails of the framef.
Extended rearwardly from the bottom is the end-board, which is curved to correspond to the curved rearward portion of the box 13 and adapted to fit therein when closed, the endboard being shown in the position it occupies when the seats are arranged dos-a-dos or when the hind seat is turned back to back with the front to allow entrance from the end of the body.
g represents longitudinal panels across the side of the box, above which is a border g of latticed formation.
Having thus described myinvention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The design for a wagon-body, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of two witnesses, this 4th day of February, 1897.
WILLIAM L. PIKE.
