Description

H. S. FOLGER.
HAND STAMP.
APPLICATION FILED D110.5,1910,
996,010, Patented June 20,1911.
Mbwuuxw D provided with win s D and State of Illinois,
and the adjustable carriers-in UNITED s'rATEs PATENT OFFICE.
HARRY S. FOLGER, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
HAND-STAMP.
To allwhom it may concern:
Be it known that I; HARRY S. FOLGER, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Chicago, county of Cook, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hand Stamps, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to dating hand stamp and has for its object the provision of simple and convenient means for indicatmg time 1n hours as well as dates.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is an elevation of a dater; Fig. 2 is a section on line 22 of Fig. 1' showin the graduations on the upper face of t e base plate lan; Fig. 3
is a view of the lower face 0 the stamp;
Fig. lis a sect-ion on 'line 44 of Fig. 3;
and Fig. 5 is aperspective view of one of the carriers and its printing pointer.
In the said drawin A is the casing and B is the base plate 0 a dating hand stamp. The base B is circular in form and has a downwardly projecting flange B Secured to the inside of the base B is.a circular stamp S having near its outer margin numbers to represent hours, and also the characters A M, P M, M and N. The
character N represents night and is av convenience in certain lines of business in which it is desired to make the distinctions between day and night instead of in the ordinary way. The other letter characters have their ordinary significance. The diameter of the stamp S is less than the inside diameter of the flange B so as to leave an annular space C between the stamp and the flange. The changeable date line is shown at the center of the stamp S.
Mounted upon the flange B are carriers by which they may be moved by ban to diflerent positions on the flange. In that part of each carrier D which projects into the annular space C,
is a rubber pointer E adapted, when the stamp is used, to make a mark on thepaper' Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Application filed ,December 5, 1910. Serial No. 595,543.
To facilitate the setting of the pointers E-todesired-positions the upper face of the.
June 20,1911. I
baseB is graduated, as shown in Fig. 2, to
correspond with the characters on the stam S, and each carrier has an index finger which bears upon this face. This index Fformsthe extreme end of a loop G which is an upward extension of the carrier D. Through the legs of this loop is a screw, H, by the tightening of which, the index F, is made to bear with greater or less force on the upper face of the base B. As the plate forming this base lies between the iridex F and the 'inner end of the carrier for supporting the pointer E, it will be evident that the screw H serves as a means for adjusting the frictional contact between the plate and the carrier. 7
What I claim is:
1. In a dating hand stamp for indicating time, a handle, a stamp-holding base, characters marked on the upper face of the base for indicating time, a rubber stamp on the lower vface of the base and having characters corresponding to the ones previously mentioned, a carrier movably mounted upon the rim of the base and having an index directed toward the characters and a pointer carried by the carrier and adapted to make a mark when the stamp is use v 2. In a hand stamp, a base plate having characters thereon, a guide parallel with said characters, a carrier consisting of a holding part located between the characters and the guide, 'a handle outside the guide. and a clamp consisting of a projecting end extending to apart of the guide opposite the holding part, and means for adjusting the force of the clampingaction between the guide and the carrier.
on the upper face,
3. A hand stamp having a circular base plate provided with a downwardly projecting flange, a circular stamp secured within the base plate and having time indicating characters adjacent to its outer edge, said stamp being of smaller diameter than the base plate so as toleave an annular space between the stamp and the flange, an adjustable pointer within the annular space, and an index by which said pointer may be properly adjusted.
4. A dating stamp having a circular base plate provided with a downwardly pro ecting flange, a circular stamp secured wlthln the base so as to leave an annular space between the stam' and the flange, a movable a stamp secured within t e base so as to leave an annular space between "the stam and the flange, a movable carrier niounte upon and guided by the flange, and a' pointer located within the annular space and-secured to the carrier.
6. A datin hand stamp having a base plate. provide with a downwardly project- December 1910.
ing fiange,a stamp secured within the base plate and having time indicating characters adjacent to its outer edge, said stamp being smaller than the base plate so as to leave an annular s ace between the stamp and the flange, an adJustable pointer within the said annular space and an index; for adjusting the pointer.
Signed at Chicago, 111., this 3rd day of HARRY S. FOLGER.
