Description

rtuitd tatct para aan.
i GEORGE W. BURTON, OF BORDENTOWN, NEW JERSEY.
Letters Patent No. 98,225, dated December 28, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT IN MACHINE FOR IrAYING- OUT SASH AND BLINDS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making partr of the same.
following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, l
which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming partof this specification.
Figure 1 represents a vertical transverse section of my improved sash and blind-marker, theplane of section being indicated by the line x x, fig. 2.
Figure 2 is a plan or top view of the same. Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention has for its object to furnish a machine for marking the bars of window-sashes and blinds, which shall be more simple in construction and convenientin operation than those heretofore known; and
The invention consists in the construction and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter specilied.
-A, in the drawing, represents the frame, on which my improved marker is supported.' .This frame is either set up horizontally, as shown, or vertically. y
0n it are arranged two longitudinal bars, B and O. he bar B is, by means of set-screws a a, fastened upon slotted cross-bars b of the frame, so that it can be transversely adjusted, and clamped in any desired direction. v
The other bar, C, is provided with tw'o projecting pins c c, which lit through a longitudinal bar, d, of th'e frame A, and which are connected with coiled or other springs D D, by which the bar C isdrawn away from B.
-E is a lever-frame., pivoted to the frame A, and
.provided with arms e, which fit against lugs f,that
project from the pins c.
By swinging the lever E, the bar C will be moved toward B; by releasing it, the springs willcause said bar to move back again.
The facing sides of the bar s B C are provided with projecting dovetail tenons g g, as shown.
F F are the markers They are bars, containing knives or tools h h', by which the requisite marks \can be cut or formed in the sash or blind-bar.
Every marker, F, has as many dovetail mortises as there are tenons in the bars B or C.
The markers are held in place by the tenons, and can readily be removed and replaced, if desired.
Onomarker is secured to the bar B, and another to. the bar C.
The bar to be marked is placed upon the frame A, against the marker on B, and then the lever E is swung, so as to carry the bar C, with yits marker, to'- ward the bar to be marked. The requisitev impressions are thus produced. l
By means of this machine, the-blind and sash-bars can be marked very accurately, 4and with great'rapidity.
The bar B is made adjustable, for the purpose of adapting the machine to bars of different thicknesses.
Having-thus described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The frame A d, the holders B and O, respectively adjustable, and movable horizontally, and provided with dovetailed tenons g g, for' retaining markers F h, the springs D,rods C, and lever E e, all constructed and arrange-d to operate as shown and described.
, GEORGE W. BURTON.
