Description
GPM. NI GKASONQ MARKER FOR CARPENTERS.
N0.'98,617. Patented Jan. 4, 1870.
Win essa fivezzfwv OZ m Ma of my improved marker.
din-ital swa Letters Patent No. 98,617, dated January 4, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN MARKER. FOR CARPENTERS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and. making part of the same.
To all whom it may concmz Be it'known that-I, G. M. NICKASON, of Ellenville, in thecounty of Ulster, and State of New York, have invented a new and improved Marker for Carpenters, Joiners, 8m; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact descriptionthereof, which will enable others skilled in the, art to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, in which- 'Figurel-rcpresentsa side view, partly in section,
Figure 2 is a vertical transverse section of the same, taken on the plane of the line :v-a:, fig. 1.
Figure 3 is a detail frontview, on a small scale, showing the marker applied to a machine.
.Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to a new device for marking the places on window-blinds, sashes, 860., where mortises are to be cut, and has for its object 'tornake such marking with snch'precision andaccuracy, that a large number of bars or planks can be prepared alike, when to be used for a number of equal-sized shutters, sashes, or other. articles. i
The invention consists in the application and arrangement of aseries longitudinally and horizontally, as as well as transversely-adjustable cutters or marking tools, fitted upon a bar, to which slight rocking. reciprocatiug, or rotary motion is imparted. V
A, in the drawing, reprcse'ntsa cylindrical or othershapedjnetal' bar, which has a groove or n'b parallel with its axis, and on which a series of sliding sleeves, B B, is fitted. These sleevesv can all be adjusted in any desired position on the bar by means of set-screws a, that I prefer to fit with their of the bar, as in fig. 1.
ends into the groove Each sleeve has on one side a'projecting block, b,
which has a recess on the side toreceive the markingtool C.-
Tbis tool is slotted, as in fig. 2, and is fastened to the block by means of a screw, 0. When worn, it can be moved further out, to project the requisite distance from the bar A.
The cutting-edges of the tools-O areronnded'and sharpened, as shown.
The sleeves can, as aforesaid, be adjusted any snitable distance apart, and the tools can therefore beset to mark moitises of suitable width, at suitable places.
One sleeve may even be arranged to hold two tools, as in fig. 1, in which case I preferto apply small washers, d, between one or both of said tools and the block b, so that, according to the thickness of said washers, the tools can be adjusted apart on the sleeve.
The ends of the bar A are hung horizontally or vertically, in a suitable frame. The bar can then, by suitable mechanism, be rotated, oscillated, or moved up and down, so that it will, when a bar or plank is held against it, mark the same with its tools for the required moxtises.
Thus, a large quantity of material can be accurately marked, and all pieces alike, after the tools have once been adjusted inthe bar.
Having thus described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Let ters' Patent, is-
The improved blind and sash-marker herein described, its several parts being each constructed and arranged with reference to the others, as shown and described.
G. M. NIGKA-SON.
