y CORSET.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, JACOB EDWARD STnoUsE, a citizen of the United States, re-y siding at N elw Haven, in the county ofNew Haven and v.State of Connecticut, have .inventada new andl useful Improvement in Corsets; and I dozhe'reby declare the follow ing, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of ret'- erence marked thereon; to be a full, clear, and exactdescription of the same, and which and represent, iii- Figure 41v aview` in elevationrof one of the two halves ofla corset constructed in accordance with ,my invention. Fig. 2 a broken view horizontal 4section on the line a-Zi of Fig. 1. Fig'. 3 a detached view in inside elevation of the red/d'cing-belt and its straps; c Fig. 4 a view ofthe reducing-belt in vertical section on the line c-dof Fig.` 3, the belt vbeing drawn to thefull scale.-
My invention relates to. an improvement in corsets, the object being to produce a simple, durable and comfortable "article constructed with particular referencev toreducing the' abdomen.
lVithrthese ends in view my invention consists in a corset having certain details of construction as will be hereinafter described andpointed out inthe claim.l
In carrying out'my inventionfas herein shown, I employ a relativelywide tapering reducing-belt consisting of an upper section 2 ofl two thicknesses of fabric, and a lower section 3 also of two thicknesses of fabric, and the saidv sections having their edgesy overlapped and joined to form .a longitudinal seam 4. which strengthens the belt and prevents it fromI undue stretching. `This belt which tapers from its front to its rear end, is permanently attached by its for,` ward edge to the clasp 5 of the corset, and positioned soas toincline upwardly from its front to its rear end. At its extreme rear end the said belt is provided with two paralto be passed throughl andl gripped by. slide buckles 7 mounted in the outer ends ofl two parallel double non-elastic downwardly in clined buckle-carrying straps 8 fastened to the forward edge ofthe back section 9 'of the corset.
'ing edges of which -seamed` together, and the said belt being' yreceiving the said adjusting straps,
corset,.'whereby tension Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Mar, '14, 1911, Application led -September 19, 1910. vSerial* No. 582,722.-
It is to vbe noted in'particular that the'two- .part abdominal reducing-belt, the two adjusting straps 6, the two buckles 7 and the two double buckle-carrying straps 8 are entirely superimposed uponl the outside of the lower portions of the bust and ihip Vsections 10 `and ,'11 of the corset. As the lwide forward end of the belt is fastened to the lower portion ofthe clasp 5, and as the belt is upwardly inclined, the belt operates when drawn taut by its adjusting straps 6, to force the abdomen inward and hold it in place 'and 'effect what is known as the reduction ofthe abdomen I claim lIn a corset, the combination with the bust and hip sections thereof, of a clasp applied to the outer edge of 'the said bustesection` -an abdominal reductioi'i-belt havingan upper and a lower-horizontal section each conslstlng of two thicknesses of fabric the meetare overlapped and tapered from its front to its rear end and having its wider front end attached to the said bust-'section of the corset along the,
' inner edge of the lower end of the said clasp,
and the said belt being` inclined upwardly' from front to rear; two parallel adjusting straps att-ached tothe'ext..reme rear end of the said belt, two slide-buckles respectively and par allel downwardly inclinedfbucklefcarrying straps respectively carrying the said slidebuckles and extending from rear to front from; the said'hip section to the forward edge'of which their rear ends are attached,
and the# said abdominal belt, straps and buckles `being'superimposed upon the lower porti'nsof the bust and hip 'sections of the may be appliedto thev saidbelt draft upon' the said straps.- f. n i In testimony whereof,'I have signed this specilicationV in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
