JOSEPH W. WHITAKEE, 0E NOBLE, ILLINOIS.V
SAFETY STOVEBIPE-HOLDER.
. Specification of Letters atent. .Patented Oct, 25 1910,
Application filed March 18, 1910.
Serial No. 550,224.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH W. WHIT- AKER, citizen of the United States, residentof Noble, in the county of Richland and State of Illinois, have made a certain new and useful Invention in Safety Stovepipe- Holders; and I declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure l is a side view of the invention as applied. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the invention. Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the strap. Fig. et is a detail side View of the thin-head pin. Fig. 5 is a face view of a modified form of collar; Fig. 6 is a side view of the same.
The invention has relation to devices for securing a stovepipe in position-in the chimney opening, and it consists in the novel construction and combinations of parts as hereinafter set forth.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple and economical device for the purpose in view, which can be applied by anyone without the use of tools.
In the accompanying drawing, illustrating the invention, the letter a, designates the opening in the wall b, of the chimney, and c, a section of stovepipe, which is designed to be held -by this device securely in position, so that it will neither become disconnected from the chimney opening or be pushed too far into the flue, thereby interfering with t-he draft.
The letter d, represents a straight flat metallic strap or thin bar having one of its ends e, turned or bent downward at right angles. This bar is made long enough to bridge the wall b, and to extend a' short distance from the face of the wall as indicated at f. In the bar is provided in the eX- tension thereof a series of slots or open bearfings g, designed to receive a drop pin L,
been placed in the chimney opening, bridging the wall b, is retracted until its angle end d, engages the inner or fiue face of this wall. Then the pin 71 is dropped into one of the slots or bearings g, next the outer face of this wall, and in that way the position o f the bar is secured. The section of the stovepipe is then inserted in the opening of the chimney, until its end engages the upturned lug t, after which the collar is secured around the stovepipe, fastening the same to the bar. Further fastening may be provided by means of the stay wire.
No special skill is required in applying this device, nor are tools required. No openings are made in the stovepipe or flue wall. The stovepipe being located above the bar, engages the head of the drop pin and keeps it in position, so that casual displacement of the holder or of the stovepipe is not liable to occur.
In Figs. 5 and 6 a modified form of collar, designated u, is shown, said collar being formed of thin flat met-al and having the form the major portion of an annulus, a strap u', being secured at the lower portion thereof including an interval o, between strap and collar for the reception of the holder bar, the collar beingv secured in position upon the holder bar by a clamp screw fv, having engagement with said strap. A clamp screw w, has engagement with the upper end of one branch of the collar and is designed to bear against the stovepipe.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A stove-pipe holder consisting of an-elongated bar, having a straight flat body portion, an integral downturned end to engage the inside of the fiue wall, an integral upturned lug forward of said end to engage the end of the pipe and formed with an eye in its opposite end, and an intermediate selar engaging the pipe and connected to the ries of apertures, an adjustable drop-pin bar between said end eye and said pin. 10 having a thin head adapted to be located In testimony whereof I aiiiX my signature, between the stove-pipe and said bar and a in presence of two witnesses.
