Be it known that I, ORLYs'rIS M. Po'rrenr, a citizen of the l'vfrnited States, residing at Larned, in the county of Pawnee and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination-Garments, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in wearing apparel and more particularly to a combination suit comprising an outside or dress shirt and drawers.

The purpose of my invent-ion is to combine in one suit.- a nether garment and a dress shirt, so that the diliculties heretofore encountered when dispensing with Suspenders and supporting the trousers by means of a belt, will be entirely overcome and the shirt will at all times remain in p roper position and without any tendency to rise out of the One of the greatest objections to the substitutipn of a belt for suspenders has been this ditliculty of controlling the movement of the outer shirt at the waist line, which not only causes discomfort to the wearer but presents a very untidy appearance. Prior to my invention, there has been no practical solution of this problem because the lower part of the shirt simplyhung free below the waist lineand was merely constrained by the cmistrictions of the waist-bands of the trousers and draw-- ers. The various movements of the body, however` and especially when bending over or into a stooping posture, immediately drew the skirts of the shirt upwardly and upon resuming ain-erect position a considerable portion of the shirt which should be below the waist was left in folds above the top of the trousers. This is entirely obviated by my presentinvention, and I believe myself to be the first to devisel a suit which combines a dress shirt with the drawers. The construction by whichl I am enabled to carry out this purpose will be more clearly understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a front elevation of one form of my combination garment; Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the same; Fig. 3 is a rear elevation of a modification of my invention; Fig. 4 is a pattern of the right-hand side of the garment shown in Fig. il; and Fig. 5 is a front perspective view of my combined garment as itappears upon a person.

readywoven cloth or fabric and of a material suitable for the outside or dress shirt. The front portions l, l, are each made of integral pieces to form the upper outer shirt portion and the lower nether drawer portion. In the form shown in Fig. 2, the back of the garment is formed of an upper outer shirt portion 2, united at the seam 3, with the two leg portions 4, 4. By referring to F ig. 2, it will be observedthat the top of each leg portion t is cut upon a curve and is higher at t-he cent-er. The lower part of the shirt portion 2, however, is cut upon a straight line, and extends below the curved line 3 before the shirt and drawers are sewed along the seam It will be apparent that when the curved top of the leg portion is brought down and sewed to the straight bottom of the shirt portion, a fullness will be produced over the seat. That is, the seat portion of each leg 4,'has a greater amount of cloth than it would have if there were merely enough material to extend from the waist line to the bottom of the drawers. This fullness appears as a curved line when laid out flat, the fullness increasing toward the center, but when the garment is on the person Athe fullness is taken up over the hips and the ` line 3, 3, becomes nearly straight around the body. The portions 4t overlap only a short distance between the points 8 and 3b, forming flaps. By allowing a greater length lalong the inner side oi' each iap than the corresponding outer edge of the leg portion, l am enabled to provide a sutlicient fullness along the crotch flaps which overlap each other as shown. The edge of the flap on the left side of the back is shown in full lines and extends from the point 3b, crossing the center at 5, and at 6 passing forwardly between the legs, appearing at point 6, in the front View shown 1n Fig. l. It will be eviy dent from this construction that I have provided a maximum fullness and freedom across the hips and through the crotch with a `minimum of clot-h, and that the construction indicated along the line of the seam 3, prevents any undue stra-ins.

The front of the garment may be closed from the neck oepning to the crotch by means of buttons and eyelets 7, and the shirt portion ma be provided with a plaitetl bosom or le t plain as in the usual outing or neglige shirt.

My combination garment is more Aespecially adapted for summer wear, and I have especially in a summer therefore shown the drawers knee-length, although it is evident that the full-length drawers may b e employed. For the purpose of supporting the hose, I provide straps 9 upon elther side of the leg portion, to which may be buckled elastic su porters 10, asi

In Fig. 3, I have shown a modification of my invention in which thev rear portion is formed of two integral parts 11, including both the shirt and drawers. In order to proi o vide the requisite fullness across the hips and in the crotch flaps, I provide a fold or plait 12, which is sewed into the side seams at l13 but is free to unfold through the seat portion and along the free inner edge of the set 16, extending from the side aps as illustrated at 14. With thisconstruction there is no seaml extending across the back as in Fig. 2, the overlap for the crotch flaps being secured by passing the offunder the other portion and securing it at 18.

From the foregoingI description it will be evident that I have provided a construction by which an outside or dress-shirt can' be united with a pair of drawers, and the two ortion 11av Fig. 5, the trousers, shown in dotted lines,

extend above the drawers portion so that no seam or fullness appears at the waist line. Moreover, the outer and inner portions of the garment perform their usual functions, while each assists the other in maintaining a proper position upon the body without auxiliary supporting or adjusting devices.

I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent As a new article of manufacture, a combination arinent comprising an outside or dress shirt and a bifurcated nether garment, the front ortion being integral throughout the entire ength and being united to the rear portion at the crotch by means of interlaprear pieces of said bifurcated nether garment having substantially the same amount of cloth as the corresponding front portions above the waist line, but greater amount of 'ping flaps integral with the rear portion, the i cloth below the waist line by being made longer than the corresponding front portions but made to correspond in length with said front portions where they are united thereto at the side seams, thus leaving said greater amount of cloth as a fullness through the seatv portion.
