APPLICATION FILED DBO. 22, 1909.

AVA I. CHANDLER,
OF MARION, OHIO.
HOLDER FOR ELECTRIOLIGHT GLOBES.
WHACQO.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Ava I. CHANDLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Marion, in the county of Marion and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Holders for Electric- Light Globes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a simple device for holding electric light shades in place, and is adapted for use in lieu of the brackets heretofore.
The object of this invention is to provide a device of the type and character set forth which will eliminate the screws operating in the brackets and will provide a strong and rigid means of securing the shade to the socket.
Further this invention is designed to construct a. holder that is adjustable to all sizes of sockets and shades.
With the above and other objects in View this invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts all as hereinafter more fully described, claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective View of a device constructed in accordance with the present invention illustrating the application of the same, and Fig. 2 is a plan view showing the adjusting members.
The invention forming the subject-matter of the present application comprises two spring wire rings 1 and 2, the upper ring being of smaller diameter than the lower and is adapted to engage the lamp socket directly above the key as is set forth in Fig. 1. The lower ring 2 is adapted to encircle the lamp shade indicated in general as, A in the groove surrounding the upper edge thereof.
The rings 1 and 2 are connected by the vertical converging braces 8, said braces being of any desired number and arranged in such a manner that the shade is held rigidly in place. Adjacent the lower ring 2 is an outwardly formed recess 7 to provide a means whereby said braces may be directed to pass over the flange forming one side of the groove in the shade and also supply further means of securely engaging the shade A.
The terminals of the wire forming the rings have the eye a formed therein and Specification of Letters Patent.
AppIication filed December 22, 1909.
Patented Sept. 27, 1910. Serial No. 534,540.
are so constructed that to one of said eyes is attached a coil spring 5, said spring having at the opposite terminal a hook 6 which when the device is attached to the lamp and socket is received in the opposite eye 4. Thus it will be seen that through the provision of the spring 5 the device is adjustable to all sizes of shades and sockets.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new is:
1. In a device of the class described, the combination with adjustable socket and shade engaging members, of braces connecting the same, and means formed therein whereby said braces may engage the shade.
2. A device of the class described comprising circular socket and shade engaging members, of spring adjusting members interposed between the extremities thereof, and vertical means for connecting said socket and shade engaging members.
8. A device of the class described comprising a spring wire ring adapted to engage the socket above the key, of a similar member adapted to engage the groove of a lamp shade, vertical means for connecting said rings having outwardly formed recesses therein adapted to engage the flange surrounding the groove in the lamp shade, and resilient means interposed between the extremities of said rings for adjusting the same.
4. A. device of the class described comprising a spring wire ring adapted to engage the socket above the key, of a similar member adapted to engage the groove of a lamp shade, vertical means for connecting said rings having outwardly formed recesses therein adapted to engage the flange surrounding the groove in the lamp shade, and coil springs interposed between the extremities of said rings adapted to provide adjustability to the same.
5. A device of the class described comprising circular lamp and socket engaging members, springs interposed between the'eX- tremities of said members, and vertical converging braces connecting said members.
In testimony whereof I afliX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
AVA I. CHANDLER. lVitnesses FRENCH Cnow, D. R. CREssINeER.
