flic ie kno that l', Cristiani' d'. 'ifiinsorn a citizen oif me United States, residing at lim r, in the county of Barnes, State of l Quixote, have invented certain new useful improvements in liunnels; and l do h. hy decime the following to he e full, el ier, and description. ot the invention, .such will ens-hte enters slcilied in the nrt which sippertsins to ineke und use the sinne .ihis invention relates to improvements in iunnels off the class wherein provision is made for automatically shutting on the ow i' when the seine rises to n certain .Y ined. nuttin'. in the reptecle, and ier one ot is ohjees to simplify and iin1 the construction and incrinise the. et ticiency and utilicy et devices oi chan :tc-ter. K vi/'ith this d other objects in View, the esiste in certain novel features ion es hereinaitter shown and described then specitienlly pointed out in the claims; end, in the drnvvings illustrative the preferred embodiment oit the invention, Figure it is vert/ical sectional view of e improved device. f is transverse on the line 2N2 of Fig. l. The improved device comprises s, cody portion it? having a tapered discharge nozzle tit o the nsuetform and with kan' annular i the juncture o the body and -s shown.. Located Within the 't e il is transverse guide har i3 having il 14.-. through which s. stern i hly disposed.' 'lhestem is provided taper end th a valve 16 for hearing t li?, the rod havingfan enlargel? stirs lower end and with a slidsi'J-ie upon the rod and suphy the si" '"lhe transverse har is provided socket; in Whichlthe .iper end ci? e2 is pivoted at 19, the i, having u. ic-r en raging in s, no'tc-h ntain the stem in its ve spaced from Whenthns ni; uhoutfthe Signed to risc i this l arrangement when the lfunnel is to be used the stem 15 is elevated until the trip 22 engages in the notch in the stem which will hold thc'valve in upward and open position. The nozzle 1l is then inserted into the neck of the bottle 21 and the liquid poured into the body l0, and will continue to flow until it rises in the bottle to a sufficient height to displace the Hoet 18 and cause the latter to engage the trip and disengage the lat-ter from the notch in the 'stem and thus release the stem and permit the valve to close by gravity. rlhe float 18 being loose upon the stem will not interfere with the dropping; of the stem when the trip is released, as Will'be obvious. By this `means the dow of the liquid is automatically sto pcd when the bottle is full, andthe liqui which remains in the body 10 held hack by the valve.- The funnel is then removed and the surplus liquid poured therefrom.
The improved device is simple in construction, and can be inexpensively manufactured in any required size or capacly.
What is claimed is l. The combination'ywith a funnel having I a stem extendin through its nozzle, said stem having an intermediate notch, a valve upon the upper end of the stein, a trip movahly connectedfvvithin said nozzle and cngaging the notch of the stem and op rating to maintain the same in elevated pehsition and the valve open, and a float, slidable upon the stem and adapted to release the trip when elevated. i
2. The combination with a. funnel having an intermediate valve seat und a discharge nozzle, a guide har extending transversely of the nozzle, a stem slidable through said guide bar and rovided with :1 notch, a valve' carried hy sai stein for engaging upon said seat, a trip swinging from said bar and en gagging said notch, and a float slidable upon the stem and adaptcdto release the trip when elevated.
ln testimony whereof, 'l affix my signature, in presence of two Witnesses.
