Be it known 'that I, Looms S. PRArr, a citizen ot' the United States, 4residing at UnionCcnter, in the county of Broome, State"ot` New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Car-Door Hangers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to car door hangers, and has 'for one of its objects to simplify and improve the construction and increase the etlieicncy and utility of devices of this character.

Another object of the invention is to provide a simply constructed attachment whereby the door is ett'cctually prevented from working loose at the lower edge and being thrown outward by the movements y ot the train or :trom the displacement of goods within the. car.

Vith these and other objects in view the r invention consists in general ot' a depending tr'ack below the floor line of the car opposite the doorway opening, a "plate attached to the car door near each lower corner and each with a web extending beneath the door and a rib extending over the inner face of the door at the lower edge, an arm extending from the outerfaco ot' each plate and'terminating in an inwardly extending hook bearing beneath the combined track and guide, a lug depending from the inner or rib edge of each bottom web of the plate, the lugs and arms having transverse bearing slots, and a roller between the lug and arm of each plate with journals engaging in the bearing slots and bearing upon the track guide.

The invention further consists in certain novel features ot' construction as herea tter shown and described, and then specifically pointed out .in the claim, and in the drawings illustrating the preferred embodiment of the invention, Figure 1 is a side view ot' a portion of a car including one ot' the doorway openings and one of the doors, with the improvements applied. Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.4 Fig. 3 is a front view enlarged of a portion of `a Ycar door at one corner7 with one of the attachments applied. Fig. 4 is a section on the line 1 4 ot' Fig. 3. Fig; 5 is a rear View of the 'trame portion of the device detached.

In the operations of freight cars the tendency is for thc doors to swing' outwardly at the bottom under the influence ot' the rapidly moving trains and also by the impact ot goods displaced in th.` tars, and to eli'ectu ally prevent this tendency and toV produce a door hanger which will etfectually resist this movement the device herein shown and described has been produced to rigidly support the lower edge ot the door trom lateral movement while at the same time leaving it free to move upon its tracks.

@ne of the improved devices will be arranged at each lower corner ot' the car door, but as they are precisely alike the description ot' one will sutlicc for both.

Each car body, indicatedat 10, is pro vided just below each doorway opening with a horizontal track each-preferably formed ot' a section of what is known as Z bars, orwith a central member 11 having reversely arranged flanges 1Q-13 extending in opposite directions from its opposite edges, the

`inner flange 1Q bolted or otherwise secured to the sill member lll of the car and the flange '13 depending below the central member and `t'orming the combined guide track and hanger for the door. A guide track 29 is also arranged above the doorway opening, preferably of a section of the Z bar to reoei-vc the upper edge of the door.

The door which is of the usual construction is represented at 15, and bolted or otherwisc secured to the door near the lower outer corners are two plates 16 having lateral wings 17-18 with a webportion 19 extending below the lower edge ot' the door and a vertical wcbQO spaced from the wings 1?18 and bearing over the inner face of the door. The door is thus firmly supported by the plates and their webs and ribs, while at the same time the plates and their webs and ribs are Iirmly supported by the door.

Depending from the outer edge of each plate 16 is an arm Q1 having a Yhoolr29. at lts lower end forY engaging beneath the dependroo ing flange 13 of theZ bar` and with a lug 23 depending from the rib 20 or at the inner edge of the web 19, and bearing above the central member l110i? the trackl bar and spaced therefrom.
