This invention relates to tracks for sliding `car doorsl andto the supports ior said tracks.
Tracks for supporting freight car doors for sliding movement are customarily supported upon a car underframe by means of track brackets.

It is an object of this invention to provide 2 tracks adapted for usewith sliding doors `for railway house cars and to support said tracks so that direct connectionbetween said'tracks and the cars isobviated. l V s A further object is the provision of tracks for 25 sliding Vcar doors adapted tobe supported and `by means of `supporting the useof rivets or the like.` A

With these and other objects in view, which will become apparent as the description proceeds, the invention comprises thenovel constructions described and more particularly pointed out and defined in the appended claims. l `In the drawing: i

Referring to the drawing there is disclosed a fragmentary portion of a railway house car provided with thecustomary opening 11 adapted to be closed by means of a sliding door 12, sup ported for movement to and from closed position upon a `track 13. The door is supported for movementupon the track by means of va p1urality of spaced hangers 14-14 provided` with rollers l5 positioned in engagement with the track. Supportingthe track in proper position upon thecar is aplurality of intermediate track brackets i6 which are secured preferably to thev side sills 1'7 by means of rivets 18. i
In the embodiment of the invention illustrated 1n Figures 1, 2 and 4 of the drawing the track 13 embodies a thread portion 19fromswhich va substantially right angular flange extends. The flange 20 is preferably provided with a substantially horizontally extending flange 21. The intermediate brackets employed to support the track 13 are clearly illustrated in Figures 1 and contour of the vertical and horizontal flanges of interlocking engagement whereby the tracks are the track. In addition to the intermediate track' supporting brackets there is provided end supporting brackets for the track. Each of` the end supporting brackets is positioned in abutting relationship with the `corresponding end of the track so as to aid in preventing longitudinal movement of said track. The end brackets are provided with recesses 26 of substantially the contour of the cross section of the track. The end brackets are provided, additionally, and preferably, with asection `2'? extending above the track andserving as a stop for the door. This section may advantageously be substantially I shaped in section, as clearly indicated in Figure 4 of the drawing. The end brackets, similarly to the intermediate brackets, are preferably sem cured to the side sill 17 by means of rivets.
With the construction of track utilized in the embodiment of the invention illustrated in Figures 1 and 2, it is preferable to employ a door, the panel of which is extended as indicated at 28 in back of the track 13. By this relationship disengagement between the lower portion of the door and the trackis avoided. In the modied embodiment of the invention illustrated in Figure 3 of the drawing a substantially channel shaped track 30 is employed. The track is provided with a horizontally extending flange 31. With this forni of track there is provided an outwardly downwardly extending flange 32 which may readily be utilized for interlocking engagement with an upwardly extending flange 33 provided preferably as an integral portion oi' a hanger 34secured adjacent each corner of the door 35. By this construction it is apparent that disengagement between the lower portion of the door and the track is avoided as readily as with the construction shown in Figure 2 of the drawing. To support the modiiied track 32 there is provided as in the embodiment of the invention illustrated in Figures 1 and 2, a plurality of intermediate track brackets and a plurality of end track brackets. The intermediate brackets 36 are each provided with a substantially angular. recess 37 forming portions 37a and 37b adapted to embrace the inner downwardly extending` leg 38 and a portion 3'?c cooperating with the portion 37@ to embrace the flange 31 projecting from said leg. The end brackets used with the track 30 are substantially similar to those employed with the track 13, differing from the end brackets 25 only in the contour of the recess provided which conforms to the contour of the track 3U.
From the foregoing descriptions of the ernbodiments of this invention it is apparent that the intermediate brackets andcne end bracket may be secured to the side sills 17 of the car and thetrack assembled therewith by means of a sliding movement until it abuts the end bracket. The other end bracket may then be secured to the car in abutting relationshipwith the. track. With this assembly it is apparent that the tread of the track is supported directly by the brackets so as to prevent any downward movement of the track and to carry the load of the door through the brackets directly to the underframe of the car. The brackets also abut against the vertical iiange of the track and so maintain it against outward movement. AThe interengagement be tween ythe horizontally extending flange of the trackand the bracket by means of the extension of said track into the recesses provided in the brackets prevents upward movement of said track relative to the brackets and firmly retains said track in position against possible rattling. It is clear, therefore, that the track is securely positioned without the necessity for riveting the track to the brackets. It is further apparent that the replacement of the track by a reverse process of the steps used in the assembly or placement of the'track may readily be effected.
It is apparent that numerous changes and modifications may be made in the embodiments of the invention disclosed. All such changes and modifications are deemed to fall within this invention which isv to be limited only by the scope of the claims appended hereto.
I claim:
1. 1n combination, a track, brackets for supporting said track, said brackets comprising portions embracing a vertically positioned flange of said track, a horizontal fia-nge extending from said vertical track flange intermediate the edges thereof, one of said portions cooperating with a J' bracket flange to embrace said horizontal track fiange, and means provided on said brackets for abutting the underside of the tread of said track to reinforce said tread against transverse bending.
2. In combination, a track, brackets for supporting said track, said brackets comprising portions embracing a vertically positioned flange of said track, an inwardly directed horizontal ange extending from said vertical track flange, one of said portionsvcooperating with a bracket flange to embrace said horizontal track iiange, and means provided on said brackets for abutting the underside of the tread of said track to reinforce said tread against transverse bending.
