ELECTRIC-LIGHTING FIXTUR.
Patented Dec. 13, 191e.
To all whom 'it 'may concern:
Be it known that 1,. Leitner. R. Hor'rON,
a citizenvof the United States, and-resident-- of Plainfield, Union county, New Jersey,
have -made certain new and useful Inven- 'tions Relating' to Electric-Lighting Fixtures, Of which the following is a specifica.-
tion, taken in connection with the accom` candle fixtures 'in which the candlel tube is 'more .readily secured in. position with respeetto thefixture arm and candle cup by .a retainer which may be secured support for thegca-ndle tube. In the accompanying drawings, showing in asomewhat diagrammatic way anxillusure 1 is a vertical section, Fi 2 isa-partial vertical-'Section taken at rig 1t angles, Fig. 3 is, a detail View of the switcl1 1 `ig`. 4 is a plan' view showin the support and conthe' retainer.. A
In the illustrative embodiment ofthe invention shown in the drawings, fixture arm 16 may be provided with a suitable flange or collar such as 36 adjacent its-threaded upfper end. The sheet metal candle cup 1Q may besecured to the fixture arm by a suitable sleeve 13 which may be screwed upon the arm; so as to Itightly hold the cup against the sleeve. .The-'upper end of this sleeve may be provided with a reduced threaded portion with .which a suitable nut 12 may coperate sogasxto firmly hold -in position the resilientwretainer which may bein the form of a yoke I1, provided with a suitable* notch 32 at the'npper end of each of the Ivoke arms. This retainer may disengageably coperate with the support 8 in any desired way so as to firmly hold this removable support in position in the candle cup in which 1t is laterally alined by the cup flange 19. This may be accomplished by forming theV upport with the apertures 27 into whic the tongues or projeetion'sf 28 project sufficiently to engage the notches `in the retainer arms. When the support is forced down into the ,position indicated in Fig. 2, these retainer arms snap inward to engage the tongues on the support 8 and firmly ig. 5- is a detail view of Application led JiIarch 1,'1-910. Serial No. 546,677.
'support 'fthe same directly froml thev fixture arm and also from lthe candle cup secured thereto without.' the necessity of` any soldred or threaded connection with thecan# dle cup. By 'forcing the retainer arms outward the support may of course be readily disengaged and removed fromthe cup.
The support may as indicated, be provided with the 4bushing .having the thread 6 formed thereon seas to be. engaged by a cooperatin thread on the candle. tube As indicate the cover plate- 9 may be put in place above the supportand firmly held in position by screwing tl1e`.`candle tube down uponit.` Any desired arrangement of candle fixture may be used in connection with the candle ytube andcup as tor'ins'tance', the
.glass candle 2' 'may Vbe supported' in the central Adepression in theeoverplate and the socket` 4 1 .may'be'inoi1nted at lthe upper end of thefcandletube so 1asto properly Vsupportpthellamp 1.,' The wires f3, 4 operating the lamp may,
any esired 'witchjdevice ,mounted in the candlelcup between the straddling arms of the retainer. A '1his'swit`ctin1ay, as indicated,
comprise a casing 35 of suitable insulating such as 25 are mounted and connected with the'lamp wires 3, 4 and the supply Wires 17, 18. The Contact springs 26 coperating with these contacts. 25 may-be mounted in any desiredjway on the switch stem 20 so as tol be operatedl by the connected switch `key 19 having the` -internalset nut 21.- The switch may, as ndicated,.be pro ided withthe me- Vas' iii'dicated',*extend down .throu 'fh the'candle tube andbeicontrolled by -material in which suitable electric' contacts tallic head 24 secured to t e casing and having a threaded neck projecting through the switch aperture 31 in the candle' cup. Suitable lugs 29 may be formed on this neck cooperating with the alining slots gO'in the candle cup so that the switch nut 23' iirmly holds the parts in position. i'
nection with an illustrative embodiment thereof, to the details of which, the invention is not of course to be limited, what is claimed as vnew and what vis desired to be) secured by Letters Patent is set forth in the appel ded claims.
