DISPLAY-BOX.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 29, 1910.
Application led August 23, 1910. Serial No. 578,530.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ERNEST H. HEPPE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Upper Montclair, county of Essex, and State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in a Display-Box, of which the following is a specification..
The invention relates to a display box of novel construction adapted to contain veils, scarfs and other dry goods and not-ions generally. The box permits the ready introduction of such goods in stacks, their separate withdrawal, and their attractive presentation to l'mrchasers.
In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 is a perspective view of an open display boxembodying my invention; Fig. 2 a cross section thereof; Fig. 3 a perspective view of one of the pockets; Fig. 4 a similar view of one of the followers, and Fig. 5 a similar view of one of the envelops.
The box is composed of two twin sections 10, connected by a hinge 11, one of said sections carrying a hinged flap 12. This flap constitutes a frontJ lid for the closed box and a sustaining easel for the open box, which supports the top section 10, in an inclined position. l
Within each box section are adapted to be received, a plurality of removable pockets 13, which are closed on the sides and back and are open at the front and top, kthe top being provided with a surrounding flange or frame 14. The height of each pocket is substantially equal to that of'box section 10, and the latter is notched or eut away in front as at 15, to here expose the top of the pocket. lVithin each pocket is contained a removable integral follower colnposed of a top plate 16, a bottom plate 17, and expansible aecordion plaited sides 1S, while the front and back are preferably open. Between top plate 16 and bottom plate 17, is interposed a coiled spring 19, which has a tendency to expand sides 1S and raise top plate 16 against flange 14.
The goods to be displayed are preferably contained in translucent envelops 20, which are of a size to be accommodated within pockets 13 above follower A. In use a stack of Vthese envelops is superposed on the follower, and the latter in a compressed state, is, together with the envelops pushed into pocket 13, through the open front thereof. Upon the release of the follower, the latter will expand to crowd the top envelop against flange 14.
The proper number of' envelops charged as described are placed into the box, which is then ready for displaying purposes. It will be seen that the top layers of the envelops may be separately withdrawn through the notched front section 15 of the box, and that upon such withdrawal, the succeeding envelops are at once pushed to the top by the followers, so as to lie against flanges l1, and become alined with notch 15. In this way the envelops may be readily removed one by one without disarranging or impairing the attractive display of the remaining envelops. I `urthermore it`should be noted that the removable followers constitute convenient bases upon which the envelopsmay be stacked before their introduction, while during such introduction they are not apt to become torn by contact with the springs or otherwise.
I claim:
1. In a device of the character described, a pocket having a flanged open top and an open front, combined with an inclosed removable follower composed of a top plate, a bottom plate, expansible sides and a spring interposed between top plate and bottom plate.
2. A device of the character described, comprising a box having a notched front, an inelosed pocket that projects above said front and having an open flanged top and an open front, and a follower within said pocket, said follower having a top plate, a bottom plate, accordion plaited sides, and a spring interposed betweentop plate and bottom plate.
