GARMENT-SUPPORTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 9, 1909. Serial No. 488,855.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL J. MGCLUNG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fayette, in the county of Fayette and State of \Vcst Virginia, have invented a new and useful Garinent-Supporter, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to improvements in garment supporters.
The object of the present invention is to improve the construction of garment supa simple, inexpensive and efficient device, designed to be applied to the waist-band of a pair of trousers for supporting the drawers therefrom, and adapted to be concealed by the suspender ends or by a belt when the latter is worn.
lVith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction and novel combination of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the claim hereto appended; it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion, size and minor details of construction, within the scope of the claim, may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
In the drawing :Figure 1 is a front elevation of a garment supporter, constructed in accordance with this invention and shown applied to a portion of a pair of trousers. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same, the waistband of the trousers and the drawers being shown in section. Fig. 3 is a front view of the garment supporter. Fig. l is a rear view of the same. illustrating the construction of the metallic eye of the drawers.
Like numerals of reference designate cor responding parts in all the figures of the drawing.
The garment supporter comprises in its construction an inner hook 1 for engaging the metallic eye 2 of a pair of drawers 3, and an outer button-receiving loop l, adapted to be engaged with a suspender button 5 of a pair of trousers 6. The hook, which is constructed of a single piece of wire, is composed of two hook-shaped sides connected to a bill of the hook and adapted to receive and support the metallic eye 2. The metallic eye 2, which is constructed of wire, or other Fig. 5 is a detail view,
is designed to have its terminals pass through the waist-band of the drawers and clenched against the same, as illustrated in Fig. 2 of the drawing, but it may be applied to the underwear in any other desired manner.
The sides of the hook are provided at the upper terminals of the shank portions with eyes 7 into which are linked eyes 8 of the button-engaging loop l. The button-engaging loop 4, which is constructed of wire, is provided with laterally extending side bends 9 and a depending bottom bend 10. The laterally extending side members form an enlarged upper portion and enable a suspender button to readily pass through the loop, and the lower bend forms a contracted portion adapted to receive the attaching members of the button and to be engaged by the latter, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 1 of the drawing. After the button is passed through the loop, the latter is drawn upward until the bottom of the depending bend strikes the stitches, or other attaching means of the button. The hook is then swung inward and downward and is adapted to receive the metallic eye 2 of the drawers. The ordinary fabric loop, or any other suitable means, however, may be employed for this purpose. The drawers may be detached from the garment supporter without unfastening the suspenders. The end of the suspenders conceals the garment supporter. which will also be concealed by the belt when the latter is worn.
The hinge joint or connection between the loop member and the hook member of the device is located at the extreme top of the latter and permits the said members 'to straighten out to enable the garment supporter to be easily applied to and removed from a pair of trousers. After the loop is engaged with the top of the trousers, the hook can be swung downward against the inner face of the band.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A garment supporter including a double hook designed to be arranged interiorly of a pair of trousers for supporting a pair of drawers and composed of two hook-shaped sides having terminal eyes, a button receivsuitable material,

ing 100p adapted to be arranged exteriorly as my own, I have hereto afli xed my signa-g of the trousers and havlng termlnal eyes ture in the presence of two Witnesses.
linked into the eyes of the hook to form a hinge joint for permitting the hook and the SAMUEL MOGLUNG' 5 loop to be straightened out in applying the Witnesses:
garment supporter to the trousers. E. M. CABELL, In testimony, that I claim the foregoing M. BARRIC-K.
